Range Report: daily plinking

Good morning, 29° with 7 mph wind says it feels like 23.
Anyway, just came in from the morning plinking. Grabbed the Ruger Wrangler and the old Ranger m 103-2 and some CCI CB Shorts. Put 7 rds through the Marlin on the flipper only missing once. Then 6 through the Ruger, missed twice. Added 6 more in the Ranger and shot the spinner at 20 yds., got 4 out of the 6 on it.
Those shorts are so quiet out of the long barrel I'll bet the neighbor across the street never knew I was out there.

For sure, CB Shorts out of a rifle are quieter than most airguns. We actually did an informal test on loudness. It took a silencer equipped PCP to compete for quietness.

I’ve found SV LR is be quiet enough and it’s now my favorite round. Even HV shorts make more noise. Especially out of a pistol. Today I fired nine rounds each of quiets and HV shorts.

Ten minutes of plinking and I’m off to Medford to renew my Subaru tabs. I should be able to pick it up next week.

Good morning, was a bit chilly this AM, but we're up into the mid teens and supposedly going breakbthe freezing mark later.
Anyway I decided to step out back while the misses was preparing a late breakfast.
Stepped up the game just bit, the old Marlin Texan 30-30 with some 170gr cast and unique. Put three on the big silhouette and missed once.

Well that felt pretty good.
On one of the shotgun threads yesterday we were talking doubles, and I had pulled the old J Stevens 235 out to look at a couple things. Well, it was laying here on the couch still so what the heck. I dug out a couple light 8 shot rounds and put those through it also.

Nice ones Randy! I'm going to try to get out Tuesday to shoot something. Between all the rain we had with closed roads and now subfreezing temps I have been in the house! Rain for next 4 days after Tuesday!!!

Yea, forty we've been trapped in this frigid weather for a week now.
Suppose to coming out of it starting today then around Tue. through the rest of the week. RAIN.
Oh, well what to do.
At least here I can just pop out the back door and let fly when I like.
I do wait till mid morning or so especially on the weekends.
And don't shoot after dark.

I’m amazed at how much better I can see to shoot. I can’t wait till my second eye is done and healed so I can do some paperwork.

Today I shot this 10/22 International at bullet traps between 15 and 35 yards. I hit all 20 times but hitting a 12” trap at 35 yards is nothing special. It has a Williams receiver mounted peep and a Hornet trigger.

I go in for a surgery follow up on my right eye on the 25th and have surgery on the left on the 30th. So far the right eye is 20/20 with a field of focus from infinity to about two feet. Closer than that and it starts to get a little fuzzy although not as bad as with distance glasses with no-line bifocals. I’m very pleased with the results.

I just stepped outside and fired another 10 rounds at 35 yards. I only hit it five times. I think I’m just getting tired

It’s an 822 prefix which would date it to 2013. I had an opportunity to buy a pre-warning and didn’t. I regret not buying it.

I was visiting a friend in Montana at the time and was leaving the next day. If it was delayed it would be a 400 mile return trip.

Todays plinker is this fingergroove sporter from 1970. It took me five rounds to get on target but the next fifteen where hits.

That is a very minty finger groove. Now that I have a finger groove, I really appreciate the stock. Turns the 10/22 into a very different handling rifle.

The previous owner had it scoped and the receiver top is marred. It’s a shame because it’s otherwise unblemished. I bought two of these at the same time and the other was altered. I’ll shoot and post about the other one tomorrow.

That is an all too easy way to blemish a 10/22, unfortunately. Most owners just slap on a scope base without knowing how easily the finish gets scratched. Our '85 SD was that way when we found it.
