Well, the wife slept in a little while this AM.
It's 8° with a good breeze. I ran two fulls mags through the 22/45, took a few rounds to get on target and it doesn't flip well in the snow.
Second mag. I got a few hits on the spinner at about 25 yds. Then finished up on the big silhouette. Think I'll have another cup of java and try the 25-20 for a few more rounds.
Gene, this is getting addictive.
How you seeing things this morn?
Think you'll try for that little road trip today?

I really like plinking daily rather than making a big productive out of shooting. I have to plow the driveway a little more to get out and then might just go for a three mile drive to charge the battery. The van hasn’t been driven much in the last two months.

Snow sucks

I agree that snow means more work and it certainly does suck for a lot of folks, probably most folks, in fact. This is snow country up here and we do have a different attitude about winter. We finally got just enough snow to start XC skiing, so I grabbed the skis a couple days ago. Temp was 3 and wind chill at 20 below, but by the time I quit, I had actually worked up a sweat. Guess it's the Norwegian blood in me.

On the other hand, loading pellets in the air guns with cold hands gets to be really challenging. I usually start dropping one or two before too long in these temperatures.

I’m not supposed to be shooting for another week but couldn’t wait. It’s not like I’m shooting a hi-powered rifle with a big muzzle blast. Here I’m shooting a Mare’s Leg right handed because I had my right eye fixed. Using a peep didn’t effect my shooting by not focusing on the sights.

I hit the trap at 15 yards seven times and then switched to 35 yards for the last three and hit it every time. Ten shots and ten hits. Then I went back inside.

Al, I had the 5 1/2" version of the Uberti 12 shot a few years back and really liked it, but let it go on a trade for some other rifle. I regretted it right away and decided to keep my eye open for another one. When I held this 7 1/2", I was immediately impressed with the balance and since all my shooting is now range shooting, thought it would be even better for target work than the 5 1/2'. I am very confident that it will hold its own against any 22 revolver, SA or DA. It's already ahead in the looks contest and can't wait to see how it fares in the accuracy contest. If it shoots anywhere near what I expect, I won't make the mistake of letting this one go. It will be a keeper.

I just came back in from the deck, had the ole Marlin 89c out there spinning one target and and slapped a couple of the smaller gongs. Only missed once out of the seven I sent across the yard.

Surprisingly this -10 degrees is warmer than last year. The coldest I’ve seen it here was my first winter here when it was -29F with high wind. It was cold enough even the long time residents didn’t venture out.

Vaquero, that Marlin 89 is a great old semi-auto 22 not often seen, these days. We have a Remington 550-1 which my husband inherited. It's another one of those all steel and walnut post war semi-autos. Fine old gun.

Thank you NCG, I found this is one a few years ago while working in a small town about an hour north of us.
I like stopping in the gun and pawn shops whenever I can, especially when out of town. On the way back to the job from lunch, I mentioned to my buddy that I work with, pull in and let's have a look.
I'm a sucker for inexpensive 22's after chatting with the owner a bit. He says I have something in the back you may be interested in, says he was thinking about taking it home himself. After looking it over, I see both front and rear sights are missing also the mag. But it does have this nice semi-period correct Weaver Marksman 4× scope. I asked how much? He says $100, I said sold. That afternoon on the way home I found a 7 rd. Magazine for $50. It is quite a shooter also. Research shows they were made from 1953-61, then the ole M60 emerged.

Love those old school walnut and steel 22s. Does the Marling shoot only 22 LR? Our 550-1 shoots S, L and LRs. Back during one of the ammo shortages when it was getting tough to find 22 LR, we pulled out the old 550-1 and shot up some of the 22 Shorts we had in stock. Kind of fun shooting 22 Shorts in a semi-auto.

Back during one of the ammo shortages when it was getting tough to find 22 LR, we pulled out the old 550-1 and shot up some of the 22 Shorts we had in stock. Kind of fun shooting 22 Shorts in a semi-auto.

During the shortage of 08 no one wanted shorts and I bought two cases of them. I still have around 3,500 of them. They were my main round until I rediscovered standard velocity.

22 Shorts can be very accurate in the right gun, usually guns that are chambered specifically for 22 Shorts. Some of my 22 LR chambered guns like them, too.

NCG, the 89 is a long rifle ammo only. I do have an old Marlin Ranger bolt action that'll shot all three.
Also, I'm thinking I tried some shorts in the old trainer, but I'm not sure.
I do have a few hundred still around here, I'm going to try it and see.
Shooting shorts out of the long barreled Ranger is fairly quiet, I've louder air rifles.

Edit; no the shorts will not work in the trainer.
