Friday in the woods

Post by bandit1250 » Sun Nov 20, 2016 7:43 am

I went out my friends home Friday about a hour and a half before I was supposed to meet him there. I used the time I had to go back behind his place with my Sako 222 to see if any squirrels were out. I was walking through some high grass to get to the woods edge and heard something running through the dry leaves. It stopped and I could see it was a Red fox. I looked at it through my scope and it had the mange so bad it hair was almost gone in places. I thought about putting it out of its misery but I didn't get my fur bearer license yet so I left it go. I actually felt sorry for this fox being in that condition and the weather getting colder but it will probably not make it much longer. I told my friend about seeing it and he said he had seen it a few times and he was tempted to take it out with his 220 Swift but thought maybe it may get better so he left it alone. When I see it again I will probably have my license and try to do it a favor before winter.

That sounds like the decent thing to do.

If you see it again take a picture and post it.

If I see again I might have to take the picture of the entry side and not the exit. This poor critter is not going to last long in the weather we are getting now even if some one don't use a bullet to do it in.

I saw one in July when I was visiting the finger lakes in New York. It had mange real bad the only thing I had to shoot with was my camera. I will find the picture and add it here.

I hate seeing animals suffering. That poor critter needs to be dispatched.
