Wow... one heck of a rain/wind storm last night and another one coming on Friday! What the heck it is supposed to be January not April/May!!!
Couple roads blocked due to high water leading to my range property. Southern part of our city power was out and some roads closed but we did fine up on the hill with no trees down and the Generac did not have to cut on.

30 and gloomy now with the mid 30’s later. Today and tomorrow will be normal weather then starting Thursday night the big chill arrives.

Not much on tap for today other than Mrs hatchdog’s dentist appt. Probably hit the grocery store on the way home. Living on the edge here!

31 now on its way to 58 later today with no rain .... most of the power outages in our area caused by yesterday's storm seem to have been taken care of .... another less powerful but still potentially destructive storm is slated to move through tomorrow .... it will also bring with it subfreezing night temps .... nothing much on tap for today ..... do hope to start the curing process for our next batch of Canadian Bacon

I got a new motion sensitive yard light installed yesterday ahead of the frigid weather.
Today I'll tinker in the shop. I have been tasked with making a "Barbi Bed" for my Great Granddaughter
by her Mother. I got some 1/4 inch poplar yesterday and will start the design today. Grandpa's are easy
touches for that kind of thing.

23 now with interesting temps for today. We expect normal increases in the temp until late afternoon then the big chill arrives. It’s expected to be in the single digits by 9:00 tonight. Coldest night is expected on Friday with double digit below zero and daily temps in the low single digits. And that’s for Spokane which is generally several degrees warmer than my place.

Normally I send warmer temps to Ranch Roper who is northeast of me and on the other side of the Rocky Mountains. With these events RR sends me his super cold temps as a thank you. No, when the wind comes from the northeast it travels thru a natural “funnel” called the Purcell Trench thru the Selkirk mountains and feeds directly to the Spokane area.

We will experience all this joy until mid next week but after Saturday we will have a gradual warm up.

Winter is here and so is the snow. It’s great to have a tractor to plow the snow. I made an adjustment on the blade camber and it does a much better job.

My housekeeper is here today so I’m hanging out in the motor home. Having half sides let’s a lot of snow in.

But the RVport keeps the snow off the roof and slides which is the important thing.

I haven't had to get the plow out yet this year. That's very unusual indeed. I have my old 1983 Ford Bronco, all rusted out but still
has a heater and radio, with a Western Plow mounted. I used to do it with an open tractor, but no more.
We also have a cleaning lady but I just hide in my shop when she comes.

It was 55° this morning on the dog walk. It's warmed up to 79°. I got out on the Harley this morning for a pleasure ride before it gets REALLY cold this next week. The weather people are predicting a low of 24° Monday morning and a low of 19° on Tuesday morning. I'm not looking forward to that at all.

Like many of you snow and wind is expected. I picked the wrong day to have surgery as the further south the more snow. Both here and there will have 45 mph wind but I’ll be traveling into a foot of snow instead of the 6-8” expected at home.

Now they are saying up to 15” of snow and 50 mph winds. I will travel 70 miles in it to have surgery in 2 hours and 36 minutes. I was going to add and 15 seconds but I didn’t want to sound like I couldn’t wait.

It's 51° here in central W TN, sure miss them grandchildren already, but it's good to be home after the two weeks over in SC.
Rainy day ahead, then it's going to turn wintery for several days.
Got firewood in the house and a big rick at the backdoor. The old Ashley gona get a little work out over the next few days, couple single digit nights .

I keep the main floor heat at 68 and ups it’s off and usually between 58 and 62. Because of the storm coming I turned the heat up to 70 in case the power goes out.

A brisk minus 2 out there with a predicted high today of 1 above. Today’s low temp will come this evening as we could see negative double digits before midnight. Tomorrow is more of the same. Had another 3” of light fluffy snow yesterday that was so easy to move I didn’t bother firing up the snowblower. Just relied on old fashioned shoveling.

I’ve been fighting furnace problems since before Thanksgiving. My gas furnace has an issue with a part called the low pressure switch. I had the tech out who diagnosed this and ordered a replacement part. The new part was also defective as was the next one sent. Apparently the manufacture has a recall on this part. Mostly the furnace works as it should but some days it won’t start. I can do one or several resets and make it go. Still it’s a pain in the butt however thankfully we have a wood stove that’s getting a workout. I’m going to call the company today and get a status report. Of course this part is from China.

It was and still is 53° degrees. It's the same temperature as it was at 6 this morning. There's been a high wind today as well. There's tree debris all over the yard. We're all getting ready for the 36 hours of subfreezing temperatures Monday through Wednesday. No looking forward to it even though ERCOT says there won't be any power outages unlike February 2021. I'm not betting on it though.

The mercury is steadily falling on the hour, we are heading for the deep freeze with blizzard conditions through Saturday morning. I hope the critters in the woods and the livestock have found refuge. It's going to be tuff around here for several days.

Negative 14 as I type this and we are expecting a high of 2 above. Wind chills are up to -30 but so far here at my place the wind has been light. My son who lives about five miles to the east of me said he had wind all day yesterday. We are fortunate that here unlike the mid-west when we get these sub zero temps we usually have clear skies. When a storm comes in with snow it usually brings a warm up with it. Such is the case this coming week as we do have snow coming in but it comes with temperatures more normal. Sympathies to those in Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, the Dakota’s and other states nearby that are having both the big freeze and blizzards.

Today my wife and I are going to our first caucus. This is at the precinct level. Our state is a primary vote state so the caucus process is for electing delegates for the conventions. No interest in becoming a delegate. Just supporting a neighbor who is the precinct caption.
