Members List?

Post by Cowboy Gun Fan » Wed Dec 27, 2023 7:17 pm

Got bored and was just was checking over the Members List. Trying to figure out why so many joined, but never posted anything. Many 0's on it. Curious to what purpose that would serve?

See pictures? Check people profiles? Changed mind? Bored?

One reason is if you are logged in you get the unread post icon on the sub forums and can just start reading new posts, if not you have no idea if there are new posts since the last time you opened the forum.

We have 3453 members and I'll bet less than a 100 members who are frequent posters, probably a large percentage who joined and infrequently or never come back. Just look at the number of members who signed up for the holiday sweepstakes. Some very nice prizes and only 47 people have signed up, makes for good odds for us that have signed up.

Just looked at the statistics and over the last 24 hours only 63 registered members have logged in and that may include members who have logged in more than once.

On a good number of those you will see inactive under the username. Banned mostly because they were identified as spammers and scammers.
This forum has a good number of active members as compared to others of the same size that I have been on.
Many people will join a forum like this and are happy to hang around but just don’t have much to say. And I have seen members who don’t stick around after a few posts. Because they don’t get enough attention to their words of wisdom.

I come here daily to read the new post. Don't post a lot. But enjoy reading and learning from others

I used to post more than I do now, because I was shooting often. I hope to shoot more in the coming year but unfortunately I just didn't recover as fast as I'd hoped this past year. Getting older sucks. LOL. There are also those that aren't confident enough to post as they have been harassed on other forums when they did.

I've left one or two forums because of how some folks act on line. Life's too short to put up with a bunch of hooey from some folk. I'm not easily offended, and I do realize that sometimes the written word doesn't accurately convey the intended meaning of the poster. Still, some people seem to delight in criticizing, and demeaning others.

That's one thing I like about this forum. Everyone seems to be pretty polite.

Back on topic, there are a lot of folks that join a forum because they have a specific problem. Once they have that problem answered, or find the answer isn't forthcoming, they never come back again. Most of those will have at least one post, but I'm sure some people join to do some searches to find an answer without ever posting the question.

Thank you, we try hard to keep it that way. With the folks here, it's pretty easy.

The nice thing about this forum is that you can post a comment or a question which might be common knowledge to many, or most members and you won't be made fun of or made to feel stupid. Our members don't do that, but some might fear it, and hesitate to jump in. Just one possible reason.
There are no stupid questions...only " I " am allowed to post those!... JK.

Clovis and I are a lot alike here... except I have left a LOT of forums due to the "OWNERS" dominating the posts. Usually it's a group of senior members who seem to delight in lording over the others. Their favorite post, regardless of the forum content or the subject of the question is something like:

"Have you tried the SEARCH feature to find that information, there are probably a hundred hits for it? That's what it's there for."

I'll try and answer questions if I know the answer.
Then I might add, "If you haven't tried the search feature already, it could provide more information."
If not, I let it ride.

The " search " feature on forums can be challenging and frustrating. If someone asks a question about something I know has been asked before and I know the answer, I don't mind providing the answer again. I'm not suggesting that the search feature should not be used. Sometimes it's easier to just ask away. I've never seen anybody on this forum take issue with that.

One of the things I have noticed on some other forums is when a newer member brings an old thread to the surface again. I've seen other members be severely critical of that. Who cares? If it is of interest to someone, I think that is why it is still retrievable. Myself, I enjoy seeing some of the older threads resurface.

About two weeks ago a new member ‘liked’ a four year old post of mine about a Mare’s Leg. It was nice to know someone was still reading old threads.

Threads have no age if they're interesting to those who had not yet seen them.
