Our Morning Coffee and Weather

Yes, I would HAVE to have all that gear. Nothing can be fun when you're freezing cold. Especially cold to a dangerous level.

It is officially cold now. Time to put away the cut offs for a while.
I have two snowmobiles that I seldom use anymore. When the boys were still at home'
we rode all the time. We had, (and still have BTW), quilted snow mobile suits, big thick gloves,
padded helmets with heated visors, snow mobile boots, and heated hand grips. We never got
cold no matter what the temps were. In fact sometimes we would have to stop and unzip our
suits to cool down a bit. Carol used to ride as well as the boys.
Now I'm too old I guess, but in reality the old gang that I rode with have all died or moved on.
Pity, it was fun.

Here's my old SRV. 540 cu in and it would fly. Riding on the frozen lake here at home we clocked it
at over 100 mph.

24 and sunny out there with a high in the mid 30’s expected. Really pretty with all the frost in the sun. We had a really nice Thanksgiving with a few family members and I’m still stuffed. Of course we made way too much food including three pies for six people. Oh well, I love leftovers. My son brought the fixings to make Old Fashioned’s which I have never had. Yum, I am a fan. Only negative was the Seattle Seahawk’s dismal performance on the football field but that was expected.

A few weeks ago I had all the rain gutters cleaned out but we had a big windstorm afterwards. So today I’ll get the ladder out and do another clean as I’m sure they are full of pine needles. With the sun it will be a great day for this task.

It was 49° on the dog walk this morning. Currently it's 67°. Rain is moving through Saturday night and Sunday with cooler temperatures to follow. I just had cereal and coffee for breakfast.

49° on the dog walk this morning. Right now it's 55°. I was supposed to have a new client show up this morning, but I guess they're a "no-show". I don't tolerate that much unless it's a very good reason. I usually tell them to take it somewhere else. It's just a matter of respect. I give returning clients a bit more leeway IF they phone or text me in advance. I'll get on with other things on my to-do list.

Used to be here in Washington State we had a late buck hunt that opened the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. One year in the early 80’s we had 10 below 0 temps for this hunt. Of course my brothers, cousin and myself were out in it…. We were younger then and maybe just a bit less smart. It’s been fun the last few days when the local news shows the record lows for the day which was this hunt I’m talking about.

It’s cold here with a current temp of 17 and a high of 35 predicted. Should be a bright sunny day which will help. First up is taking a look at our water heater which seems to be losing hot water quicker than normal. Probably the lower heat element but I picked up a multi tester to find out for sure. Then next is the annual Apple Cup football game between the Washington State Cougars and the Washington Huskies. Probably going to be a Husky blow out as the Huskies are ranked #4 and undefeated for the year. The Cougs….well not so much. Oh well, maybe next year…

That was probably the year I moved my mobile home onto my property, a couple of weeks before Thanksgiving and the ground was already frozen down a foot. Took me a couple days to dig a 10' trench for the power line, the top foot was all done with a pick, almost like digging through concrete. The water line from a neighbor I was going to hook up to until our well was drilled the following year was frozen so I had to haul all my water until late Feb. when a warm spell finally thawed it out.

Mission Ridge just missed their traditional opening on the day after Thanksgiving, it's been too warm for their snow making equipment.

I was just looking at my water heater and have no problems with it but it's over 15 years old so I'm thinking of replacing it before it starts leaking.

42 degrees right now under a heavy cloud cover ... projected high 57 with showers moving in overnight .... a string of subfreezing night temps moving in starting tomorrow night .... we do not winterize our camper so our usual cold weather protocols will be instituted this afternoon .... sounds like many folks flying back home today may face delays .... sure hope the snow that has already hit middle America and is moving east doesn't cause problems

A bit warmer today with a current temp of 22. Probably looking at the mid 30’s again today but I’m still waiting for the local news to begin. Possible snow next weekend which will be most welcome by the local ski resorts. Two are open with very limited runs available.

Both elements and both thermostats on my water heater checked out fine so who knows. Seems like the water cools out sooner than normal but maybe we’re just imagining it. It is very cold in the basement where the water heater is located as I’m mostly running the wood stove upstairs and the furnace runs very little. So this causes the basement to be colder than normal. In fact when I was working down there yesterday I wore long johns and two sweatshirts.

Yesterday’s Apple Cup football game was much closer than I expected and in fact a pretty good game. Huskies won 24-21 on a last second field goal. Their kicker had missed 3 of the last 4 attempts but nailed this one unfortunately.

I was just looking at my water heater and have no problems with it but it's over 15 years old so I'm thinking of replacing it before it starts leaking.

Anything after 10 years on a regular water heater (electric or gas) and you’re living on borrowed time. If your heater is anywhere that it rupturing can cause damage, I’d consider getting it changed asap. Mineral content in your water is the biggest determination in how long a water heater lasts. You must have very neutral water where you are. One town I used to build houses in was known for a 5-6 year lifespan on water heaters. Water there was so bad it would eat the brass connectors in your pex plumbing after about 18-20 years.

My weather basically mirrors Hatches, so I won’t bother mentioning it. I need to get a bunch of gravel spread in front of my shop in the next day or two. Not going to be fun in the cold…

58° degrees this morning on the dog walk. We've got another cold front moving through. We had a trace of rain with it but not as much as predicted. I cooked bacon, eggs, toast and coffee this morning for breakfast.

Well, it's officialy cold now. The lake froze over last week and then it snowed so

44 on its way to 56 later today .... our lowest temps of this fall are on the way .... 30 tonight, 19 tomorrow night ....that's cold for this part of the country .... Maureen's computer goes to Best Buy later this morning for its yearly checkup .... on to Sam's after dropping it off .... an assortment of medical appointments on tap for each day through Friday
