Wow, when those airbags went off it must have been frightening and disorienting. Happy you didn’t suffer any injuries other than the shock of the event.

It was a bit of a surprise but I fair really good in emergency situations. I immediately went into survivor mode.

I'm glad the deer didn't get away. I've hit a few that did good damage and then they stand up, look right at you and run off.

The cataracts are another issue. Good luck with them.

earlier today we rode over to the body shop that is working on our camper .... one of the things we heard is they have had 4 vehicles damaged from collisions with deer towed to their shop since Monday

Glad you're OK. In my opinion your car has sensitive air bags. I've seen worse hits with no bags deployed. Sounds like you would had preferred them to not deploy. My wife has hit 2 and one hit her car. I know a woman who has a contest going with one of her sisters. I believe they are somewhere around 17 deer each. They live in a heavy deer populated area.

Which reminds me. I contact the game department here in Virginia a few years ago asking if they could extend the hunting season. I told them it would be a win-win-win-win-win situation. Including less deer hits. Not sure if my input mattered any, but they recently really extended it more than I ever expected. I still have about 8 deer hanging around my house everyday though.

Don't know what statistics say today, but years ago, when I lived in Illinois they said that vehicle strikes and kills of deer in Wisconsin far exceeded harvest by hunting.

The yearly average of auto kills is around 16,000 according to Farmers. And I found this information.

Once you get your eyes done you will be amazed at the improvement. I had both of mine done about four years ago and them put in distance lens. I figured I could buy drugstore readers a lot cheaper then RX distance glasses. Turns out I can read most of the time without glasses and can see both sites on a rifle and the target. I got the eyes checked last week and 20-20 both and I am 75.

Wow, I didn't realize how well they hold their value. That's great for a 2017. I hope with that extensive amount of damage at over 11k that they are able to repair it with no lingering issues.

That’s my biggest concern also. MSRV was just over $39K but I bought it when the 2018’s were out so I got a big discount.

Doesn't look as bad at the wrecked Corolla I bought back in the 80s. I spent two weekends and a couple hundred in parts. I had a front end guy put it on the rack prior to purchase. He said there was one component that was slightly bent, but would never cause me any trouble. I didn't bother to paint it, as I bought it for a back and forth to work beater car. Drove it about 15 years.

Deputy walked up when he got there to take the report, and said, "Man, knocked the crap out of him..." "Won't be any doubt this was a deer strike."

The owner of the dog pack, illegally training the dogs showed up right behind his dogs, hearing the squeal of brakes and the impact, thinking Tina had hit one of his dogs. When he realized his dogs had caused the accident, he took off, without the dogs. We passed the info on to the insurance company and they said if they could locate him he could well be liable since he caused the accident by his illegal actions. OUR insurance never went up and we never heard another word about it. The Deputy said he knew the truck Tina described and the hunter, so maybe he had to pay...

Another thing we have learned and try and pass on to the younger drivers... If you see one deer cross, SLOW down, they travel together.
You slow down and think you missed it, got lucky, two more run out in front of you.

I was guessing $5,000 to $6,000 minimum just because of the airbags. I'm betting their replacement is a good chunk of that cost. Hopefully you'll get the car back and not be able to tell it was ever involved. They did a good job on the truck once they got the right parts in.
