I don’t care if it’s light at 6:00 in the morning when I’m making my coffee, but I’d rather it were light at 5:00 in December. Pitch dark at 4:00 in winter is a drag, and makes winter suck even more than normal.

I’m 100% in support of leaving it light later year round.

Does Canada have plans to do this too?

There has been a lot of talk of it here on the west side. Our provincial government has said they were going to do away with the change, but then said they wanted to wait until WA, OR and CA all agreed to get rid of it too. I’m pretty sure the wheels of commerce would keep turning if one changed and the other didn’t. Some shops open at 8:00 and some at 9:00 already, so I don’t get the big deal.

I heard you got as close as Portland. Did you get further west into the Tualatin Valley?

We went out to the coast at Eugene, stayed at Honeyman for a couple of nights, the to Newport and Southbeach, and then to Newburg and Champoeg. Stopped in at Cliff Barackmans Bigfoot museum in Boring on the way back up here. Pretty fun place to check out.

Somewhat. Newberg is the other side of the Chehalem mountains from here. Specifically Bald Peak. 17 miles. Mr Neutron is in Boring Oregon, so you where literally blocks away from him.

I just read that yesterday Marco Rubio re-introduced the bill to federally mandate no more time changes. It’s looking for a permanent switch to daylight savings after Sundays change. (I always thought daylight savings was the winter adjustment, and summer with later sunrise and sets was standard time?).

I, personally really hate this time of year. I'm all for keeping " Daylight Saving " year round. It's really kinda ridiculous to me.

Personally, I really cannot Understand the reasoning behind the opposition. There ARE many states that don't change.

The only reason that they keep it longer then it was is that big business thinks that folks will get out more and spend $$$. A lot of us shop online so it is a mute point. When I was a lot younger Florida did not have daylight time and I think that Arizona still does not practice it. Maybe we have a member from Arizona that can verify or deny this.

No state is required to go to Daylight time. The problem is no state can stay on Daylight time year round so a change is required.

I think it’s the change that people don’t like and they think if you don’t change everything will be fine. I’m betting if the law changes to allow the states to stay on Daylight time year round that people will discover they don’t like it. I think this will be more true of the northern states where it will be dark in the morning. Remember we stayed on Daylight time back during Carter and it was not popular.

Not sure about AZ, but there is a member of a different forum I also participate on is from there.
I'll ask, I was thinking that at one time that Ohio didn't change.

Arizona is a state that doesn’t change the clocks. A few years ago my wife and I took a driving vacation to the Grand Canyon and all the other attractions there. While Arizona does not change the clocks the Navajo Nation does change them. Navajo Nation is huge and driving in and out of it drove us crazy trying to figure out what time it was. We did some scheduled tours and struggled to know what time to arrive for them. Nuts.

I can see that being a problem but being retired and not getting up early anymore the extra hour of daylight in the afternoon is nice to have.

They could move the starting time for schools up a hour but that might not go over well with parents that have to be at work earlier.

I know that Washington, Oregon and California have all approved going to year around DST when and if Congress approves it.
