its a take out the jean, socks and long sleeve shirt type of morning/day .... 54 now with forecasted high of 55 and periods of rain .... yep, a pack away the shorts, T-shirts an sandals .... morning trip to visit a lady who is all but home bound .... this afternoon we need to pickup a grandson at school ..... meet the family at our youngest son's home for Trick-or-Treating

2 inches of the white stuff. They say it will melt and I hope so because I need to blow
leaves yet. There are still a lot of leaves on the trees.
Hooray, I got everything put back in the barn ready for Winter. The plow is behind one
door and the tractor with the snow bucket lurks behind the other. Now I just need to
blow leaves when the snow melts and then I can start playing in my shop.

The warm up has started as it’s 23 this morning which is better than the teens we’ve had this week. Another beautiful sunny day with highs in the mid to upper 40’s expected. Should be a perfect night for the trick or treaters out there. Reminds me of the Halloween nights of my youth. However after tomorrow we are expecting several days of rain and might get up to 2” which is a lot for us. The freezing level will be 6000+ feet so no mountain snow out of this storm. I can see snow on the northern ski runs on Mt Spokane now but that will go away.

A couple of years ago I planted some “deer resistant” cedar hybrids shrubs to create a privacy fence between us and the neighbor. Last year due to the long cold winter the damn deer decided to eat on the shrubs hitting the two on each end the hardest. So the plan is to put a hot wire around them for the winter. So yesterday in our running around I stopped at the local farm and feed store and bought the supplies I need to do this. Just for the heck of it and not expecting any success I checked the reloading dept for the Speer .308 125 TNT HP bullets I’m planning to shoot in my 300 Blackout. Bingo, in stock and at a price less than I have found online. So now I have 246 bullets and 249 pieces of brass. Sounds like a marriage to me. Might have to take advantage of these pending rainy days and get them loaded up.

Last year due to the long cold winter the damn deer decided to eat on the shrubs hitting the two on each end the hardest. So the plan is to put a hot wire around them for the winter. So yesterday in our running around I stopped at the local farm and feed store and bought the supplies I need to do this.

Have you worked with electric fence before? I've found that the most important thing is a good ground, next most important is keeping the bottom wire free of grass/weeds. When I first did mine it only had 1 ground rod and I was not that impressed, I added 2 more ground rods spaced about 20 feet apart and it made a big improvement. Now that half my pasture fence is field fence I just attached the ground wire to it so every metal fence post is a ground. If you're not careful it will knock you on your b**t, last week I accidentally touched a hot wire while holding on to a ground and it hurt for 10 minutes.

I assume there won't be much space between the fence and the shrubs, they'll jump over a 5 ft fence like it's not even there.

Another colder than normal morning. Coffee is coming.
Still too much snow on the ground to blow leaves so I guess I'll do shop work.
Every Fall I collect Hickory nuts, (they're like little pecans), and I had quite
a few collected but a mouse got into them and they're all gone.

Twenty-three kids braved the 14F weather to visit my house and play games. The neighbor women designed four games like a bean toss and after completing a game each kid received a stamp. Four stamps and they received a quart freezer bag stuffed with candy.

Great idea on your grounding using the fence posts. That’s a lot of ground. This setup is a temporary fence and I used a pet level charger. One 3’ grounding rod was recommended but I used one 6’ rod. At my last place I used three 6’ grounding rods spaced 10 ft apart as that was a livestock rated charger. Yes, not enough space for the critters to jump over the fence and I used two runs of the poly tape to discourage leaning down and getting under the top run. Might keep the turkeys out too but all they do is get in between the shrubs and dust. Here’s a link with my project.

20 this morning and we are expecting temps in the 40’s today with sunshine. But warmer temps are expected tonight and the warm front is bringing rain. Quite a bit tomorrow and then on and off for the next several days. Could be a couple of inches by the time it’s done.

Today I have some more seasonal preps to complete including a couple of oil changes, generator and snow blower. I filled up all my gas cans with fresh treated fuel and they need to go back into the flammable cabinet I picked up from the Boeing surplus store many years ago. Nice to have to store all my flammable stuff. It’s the size of a small fridge and holds a good amount of stuff.

We didn't have many trick-o'-treaters last night. I guess the cooler weather held some of them off. Maybe our location had something to do with it as well. We live near a dead-end cul-de-sac. At any rate, it was a nippy 41 degrees on the dog walk this morning. I cooked bacon and made waffles for all. I hadn't made waffles in a long time and just thought it was a good idea. Nothing on the agenda today.

We're five mile out of town and a half mile back in the deep woods. We seldom get trick or treaters, so, Carol refuses to
buy candy to give out. She says she'll just end up eating it herself. (I don't mind helping with that).

Anyway a few years ago there came a knock on the door. I just said, "Carol, I think it's for you." Yup there were three of them all dressed up
and looking cute. In a panic she was rushing to and from the kitchen giving away my Orios, apples and whatever else she
could grab. Now we have a small amount of candy just in case, and then I get to eat it.

last night we setup under a dining fly to hand out candy .... it was cold with misting rain and some wind but we were pretty busy for a couple of hours .... we used a camping propane fire place to cut the chill and it worked well .... its already gotten up to 40 with a predicted high of 52, dropping back to 28 tonight .... our coming weekend camping trip with our club is going to be a bit chilly

46 this morning at 6am, yesterday we were below freezing and had a frost.
Not unheard of for us in November but plenty of places in the south of the state recorded their lowest November temp on record.
In the north of the state temps are in the 90's and bushfires ragging.
