Fall Colors

Yes, when I think of a cabin I always think of my Uncle's old log cabin. One big room with a pot belly stove, a small kitchen with a wood burning cook stove and the only running water, a small changing room and a sleeping porch with around 6 full size beds.

I helped him winterize it a few times and as it was far enough up in the Cascades where many feet of snow was possible he would brace up the roof with many poles on the inside, if it got too deep the roof would have to be shoveled off. A friend of mine stayed there for a couple of weeks one Winter and it took him hours to shovel out a spot big enough to park his car and then make a path to the door, hours more shoveling to make a path to the outhouse.

Haven't been up there for many years but I think the cabin may still be there, it was on leased forest service land so unlikely that someone would build a expensive "cottage" on it. My Uncle passed many years ago so have no idea, I should take a drive and see, it's only about 50 miles away.

We took a local drive today. About a 20 mile radius of the cottage and enjoyed seeing many more trees now standing out from the remaining green. So far, what we're seeing are some of the most beautiful colors we've seen in years here in Western North Carolina.

I'm disappointed. The real colors, (very vivid) are not showing up in these pics. These were taken from my phone. Believe me, they are a LOT prettier than can be seen here.

#4 was taken from our front deck.

We're starting to see a little color, was back on the farm collecting the white oak that fell back in the spring. I had cut it up a few days ago.
I snapped this one as I was coming out.

A lot of the deciduous trees have lost most of their leaves. The brightest colors now are from the Tamarack and Larch.

Nothing prettier than a fall Tamarack IMHO.
