Today's trip to the LGS.........

Post by fortyshooter » Mon Aug 21, 2023 11:28 am

A good selection of 410 was on the shelf and picked up Winchester SP primers just to add to the stash. Get them when you see them!
Oh and something big happened in 410 world this morning 8-)

I guess those 410 slugs would be ok at a close range.
If I needed a one, I'd just as soon grab one of the 45 colts.
Good score though.
Now, where's that new shooter? πŸ€”πŸ™‚

Yep a 45 slug better than a 410 but picked up a box just to have it around. Yes the single shot finally made it to the P.O. and just waiting
for store owner to pick it up and bring it to his store here. Was getting ready for a 40 mile drive to Cabelas to pick up a 410 Stoeger Coach gun and then checked the tracking and found it made it.

We are breathlessly awaiting the arrival of your new addition. I have a Stoeger Coach in 12 that miss T bought me years ago as a get well gift after a major surgery. Beautiful. :) Well, for the price point...

Yeah it has been a wild ride tracking the thing and got a call it will be at the store tomorrow for pick up.

Have the 20-gauge Coach and after a bit of polishing the hinge points runs real smooth now and shoots great. I like the double triggers too.

Good score, cant say I am a fan of solids in the 410, I much prefer OO/SG's. They pattern fairly well in mine at shorter range, 3" load contains 5 so both barrels from my stoeger coach gun is 1 more pellet than a standard 12ga load.

The 410 has been my deer gun for last few years. Since about 2016. The Winchester slugs are what I use. Haven't missed one yet. But only drawback me using the 410 is range. All my stands are set up for max distance 25-30 yards. My Grandson says I should just use a bow.

At those ranges, I'd opt for one of the pistolas. ;)

Reason went to 410 is shoulder problems. Tell Grandson if I could draw a bow, I might get one of my deer rifles back I let him have. I've got used to the 410 though. I've seen the federal top gun ammo before, but never shot any. Been shooting Rio's lately.

I hope your .410 comes soon forty. You should pick up the .410 Stoeger Coach gun too. I have the 12 ga and .410. I'd like to find a 20 ga too. They are just fun and handy in my opinion.
I'm glad to hear that .410 slugs work on deer graywolf. I always wondered.

Well, I can understand the shoulder and recoil thing, but I'm pretty sure neither of the 45 colt rifles, one Rossi and a Marlin kick much if any more than a heavy load 410. Something to test I guess.
Glad they are working for you, and it keeps you in the woods, that's always a plus in my book.

I could get back any of the rifles I've already passed down to the kids and grandkids. Like a .243 or .223, but I've simplified and only have 2 calibers to buy for now. 410 and .22. I started out using a shotgun for deer, looks like I'm ending up shooting shotgun. For a long time around here, land owners wouldn't let you use a rifle for deer.

Let me add. Even though most of us here my age and older started off deer hunting with shotguns, that changed over time. Most folks around here now younger than me is just opposite, they have only used rifles. Back to the 410 ammo, I'm going tomorrow to a local store I heard had some #8's in stock. Need to make sure got enough for squirrel season.

I always used rifles for deer, with one exception.
Once a buddy came by and was wanting to go deer hunting with me, but
didn't own a rifle, so I let him take the rifle and I grabbed the 12 ga.
I ended up getting a young buck that afternoon with it.
The buddy never saw anything he said.
Since then I have hunted with pistols on occasions, very fun.
I've taken 4 deer, with 4 different pistols.

Good luck on the 410 ammo graywolf.
I've found much better deals online than locally for the 410's.

I found out that you can ONLY hunt deer in Oklahoma with Shotguns loaded with Slugs. Luckily, if Miss T wanted to hunt again, I have plenty of 12 Gauge slugs, and we have several 5 round boxes of 410 slugs, but will look for more. I don't have any problem with hunting, I just don't choose to any longer. I can't eat game meat, it doesn't agree with me.

I would say I'd like to shoot a deer with a pistol, but I better not. I ain't shot pistols to much thru the years, and I'm not a good shot. I'd have to buy a new pistol, because all my pistols now are .22. Place I went to check on 410 shells this morning had done sold out, but a guy told me Walmart had some. Walmart had 2 boxes of Winchester AA #8 Target loads. I got both of them. Marine, my wife is like that. She's always loved deer meat but she can't eat it anymore.
