We are very much on fire watch here too. All of BC seems to be on fire. Smoke has been horrible. Lots of evacuation orders in place. We are looking at high winds and “dry lightning” overnight and tomorrow. Going to be a tense few days, but there is rain forecast for mon and tues.

Heading your way tomorrow to the Kettle Falls campground. We’ll be keeping an eye out for those disturbances on Monday and Tuesday, that dry lightning would be horrible if it happens.

Woke up to 74 this morning. And here I was whining about 68 a few days ago. Temps are going down starting today with the high in the low 90’s or upper 80’s. Then starting tomorrow highs in the low 80’s to high 70’s. Nice temps but it’s this cool front that’s bring the chance of lightning redthies spoke of. Heading out here in a few while it’s still cool (ish) to do the motor home preps. Then get the lawn mowed before it warms up. Then off to the store for the grub for next week in camp.



ETA: as I typed this the A/C just kicked on. It’s 7:19 in the morning and the temp is set at 76. Crazy

Making a B-Day cake for granddaughter today, she sure has come along way back, gained 1.1 pound over the summer. She wants a hot fudge cheesecake with a brownie crust. Everyone have a great day!

Even with the big fires in BC and Montana we haven't had any smoke here yet. First Summer in quite a while we haven't had smoke although there's still a fair amount of Summer and early Fall left.

Morning has come and gone. It wasn't too bad out this morning, but I don't know the temperature. Right now it's 100°outside at 2:30 in the afternoon. I just had cereal for breakfast. (Edit: we just hit 104° at 5:27 this afternoon. I think it might go up a degree or two still.)

Even with the big fires in BC and Montana we haven't had any smoke here yet. First Summer in quite a while we haven't had smoke although there's still a fair amount of Summer and early Fall left.

You’re down in Wenatchee, no? It’s definitely smokey up here! Photo below is diner across from my shop last night.

My brother is working in Wisconsin this week, and his wife was woken at 1:00 am today and told she had 5 mins to leave. There were trees candling 100’ behind his house. At this point, nobody is allowed into his neighborhood so we don’t know if his house is gone. It sounds like the winds might have pushed the fire away from his house, but the house is between the main fire on the west side of Okanagan lake and the spot fire from wind blown embers behind his place, so no telling what will be there. I have an old friend whose property is right across the road from my brother on the lake. He has a Super Cub on floats, and a Jet Ranger at his house as well as a massive collection of guns including every commemorative Winchester 1894 they have produced since the late 60s (all unfired in original boxes), Uzis and god knows what other treasures at his place. I wonder if anything will be left…

OMG! Those wild fires look terrifying! Every once in a while I smell a good whiff of smoke
and wonder if my neighbor has stupidly started a fire, and the I realize it's coming from
Canada. We're not as dry as we were a couple of weeks ago, but we're still pretty dry.

I'd hate to look out my window and see that! I hope it gets controlled soon. I just had cereal and coffee for breakfast. Right now it's 84° and everyone is praying that the tropical depression heads our way so we can get some rain. Today marks the beginning of week seven without rain.

Yes, I'm just outside of Wenatchee. We're below the tree line here so don't have the big forest fires but the grass and sagebrush fires can spread pretty fast too. We had one several years ago when it was windy and the embers from it made it across the Columbia River and burnt down a old fruit shed. At least people aren't building houses with cedar shake roofs anymore.

Spoke too soon about no smoke. Woke up this morning to moderate smoke, wind must have shifted or it's from a new fire. Not too bad (yet), you can definitely see it and smell it but I've seen it a lot worse. Funny, even with my COPD it doesn't seem to bother me. I just came in from moving pasture sprinklers, mowing the yard and setting a sprinkler on the lawn and did not get anymore out of breath than usual.

The smoke is the worst of it, 2019/20 fires here in Aus we spent a month in smoke that had visibility at 1/2 mile on a good day and far less a lot of the time. That was prior to having any fires locally, I found it harder to deal with than having everything around us ablaze.

What city is that in your photos?

The photos are Kelowna. Up the valley about 2 hours from Oroville. There are so many cities and towns evacuated right now it’s insane. It’s been hot and windy and govt is failing in their strategy for these fires, so it’s becoming a much bigger disaster than it needs to be. We have a province wide state of emergency declared now. For those of you that don’t know, BC is bigger than Washington, Oregon and California combined. As of yesterday morning there was just shy of 60,000 square miles burned.

I've heard of Kelowna, my neighbor used to deliver freight up the valley and would occasionally cross the border and deliver freight there. I didn't realize it was so big, even has skyscrapers. Wenatchee only has a couple of hotels that are maybe 5 or 6 stories high.

Thought about going to the range today but decided to stay in the AC. Right now, its 86° at 10 a.m. The high today is supposed to be 104°. We'll see if we make the mark or not. Rain chances have been downgraded to 20% on Tuesday and 40% on Wednesday. The tropical depression is going towards the Brownsville area. Lucky them. I cooked bacon, eggs, toast and coffee for breakfast.

Woke up to 55 up here in camp at Kettle Falls, WA on the Columbia river (actually here it is a reservoir called Lake Roosevelt). About an hour south of Redthies up in BC. High is supposed to be around 85 but with the thick smoke it will stay cooler than that due to filtered sun. Here is a shot from yesterday afternoon when we arrived. The smoke back home in Deer Park is even worse than this due to the local fires that blew up Friday. Son and DIL are still evacuated but for now their house is still standing but the fire is only about a mile away. Winds have calmed down so the spread is much slower.

Special Sunday; granddaughter (one with health problems) turns 13 today. She gained 1.1 pounds over the summer, she asked me to make a cheesecake for her birthday cake. So I made one that has a fudge brownie crust and is topped with hot fudge, if that doesn’t add a pound or 2.

Well, we reached 106° just a few minutes ago here in Sugar Land. I hear it got to 108° officially at IAH. This is just too much. I stay in the AC as much as possible.
