Our Morning Coffee and Weather

Was out ringing steel with the flintlock this morning. 80's and windy. Weekend supposed to be 90's. This climate change is out of control....I saw yesterday that the temperature in the US desert states was supposed to be over 100....imagine heat in the desert? What next??? Little Greta was right!!

70’s today. Going to set up camp along the River at the club range and spend a few days there. Do some shooting and work on some leather projects. Sharpen some knives too. Enjoy the solitude mostly. Weather supposed to get hot but it’s nice in the trees along the river. Might even take a swim.

86° at 9:30 a.m. It's supposed to get to 101° today but it will probably go higher. We reached 103° again yesterday afternoon. No food for me today.

Up at the lake and it’s getting warm. Yesterday was our arrival day and as predicted we had high winds. Calmed down overnight so today we hit the water. Tried a spot for walleye where a buddy did well but we didn’t mark any fish and nobody else was fishing that spot. Marked a bunch of fish shallow so switched to trout gear but no luck. Had an on the water boat inspection by a Stevens County Marine Deputy and he told us he spoke with a guy who fished a different spot with success so we’ll head there tomorrow. Big warm up, 90 tomorrow and 98 on both Thursday and Friday. Crap

Headed in to get first eye done (cateract surgery) supposed to be there by 6:30. Then when i wake up they say go get a bite to eat or something and come back in a couple of hours and let them look me over ...and then in two weeks go back and repeat process on other eye. Be glad to be able to get some coffee in me when its over....

No longer morning but I did have some pancakes when I got home from the colonoscopy. I still feel a bit groggy. Doctor said he removed seven small polyps. They sent them off for testing and will know in about a week or so. He said I need to have a repeat in three years. Ugh! There was some other new I'll put on a new thread that was disturbing. Right now it's 98° and just getting started.

I have to have a upper GI every 3 years but no prep other than no food or drink the night before, still on a 10 year repeat for colonoscopies. Last time even though I followed the prep to the letter it wasn't good enough, rescheduled and now have to do a extended prep. Jello and Broth for twice the days and drink 50% more of the day before stuff. I was starving, at least I have around 6 years before my next one which will likely be my last if I get to wait another 10 years.

Got my gear loaded and ready to leave early tomorrow am to set up camp for a few days at the black powder club. Traveling light and will do lots of shooting. Looking forward to winding the clock back a couple hundred years.

93 fricking degrees in the shade up here at the lake. Hotter tomorrow and Friday. Fishing was still slow and we have not been able to find any Walleye. I did catch this nice Rainbow but had to release it as it is a native fish. Only hatchery fish can be kept. Probably about 17” or so We’re thinking about skipping the fishing tomorrow and just find an empty beach and spend part of the day swimming with the dog. Too hot to fish.

Had a boat inspection by a Ferry County Marine Deputy. Nice guy and we had a great chat.

It's 9:40 and my weather station already showing 90 degrees. Gonna be another hot one. Pretty sure it will hit 100 this afternoon. We've had heat indexes high as 120 degrees this week. Cleaning up after the storms came thru a few weeks ago, the garden coming on, and helping in the hay fields in all this heat, has about got the best of me.

I met a retired Army officer over coffee and we struck it off and talked for
two hours over coffee. This is the last day. We go home tomorrow.

It's 90° here at this writing. I rode the Harley to the police station this morning before the real heat sets in. I told the detective all I knew. I think he was satisfied with my answers. I cooked bacon, eggs, toast and coffee for breakfast.

Breeze finally picked up at camp. 85F right now. This is my little Northwest Company historic flag. Competed with Hudson Bay Co in late 1700’s until they merged in early 1800’s.

Late afternoon at the lake and it’s 95 in the shade. Didn’t bother trying to fish today instead we had a relaxed morning in camp and then took the boat out. Here on Lake Roosevelt there are dozens if not hundreds of nice beaches that are public property. Folks can just boat up to a beach and either spend the day or camp for whatever amount of time you want. So today we hit one of these beaches and us and the dog had a nice swim. I didn’t want to beach my boat as it has a painted aluminum hull (gloss black) and I’m sure it will scratch badly. In the past I have seen folks use a bungee cord anchor line off the bow and a rope to the shore. Theory is you use the shore rope to pull the boat in to get on and off and then the bungee pulls the boat out to deeper water. Today I did this for the first time and it worked great other than I had to do a short swim with the shore rope. I’ve seen video’s of guys using a grapple hook to send the shore line. With the amount of logs and other debris on the shore I’m going to pick one up and give it a try. Regardless what I did today worked great. If your picture is large enough you can see the bungee on the bow and the shore rope on the stern.

That water sure felt great on this hot day.
