Gene, I have a Versatube carport that I park my truck camper under. Go to their site and plug in the information and design your building. Make sure you have the proper snow load information for your address.IMG_0090.jpeg
Thanks I’ll check it out.

This company does a lot of business in SE Texas. I don't know if they're nationwide or not.

I haven’t selected a carport yet but have started leveling the ground. The right of the tractor was about where the right of the RV was all winter. I had plenty of room to plow but this will give me more room.

I had 45 yards of road building gravel delivered.

I’ll have 30 yards of 5/8 minus added to the top.

I ordered another 45 yards today. The RV carport will fit on the level platform however the edge is too steep and I have to taper it further out.

I leveled out the last three loads and just need to clean up the edge and get the top a little more level. I’ve put down 135 yards of road building gravel. It’s enough to extend the pad out another 20 feet. Here the van is parked where the MH was last winter.

The MH was also further back.

Before the MH was backed up against the bushes so there was no room to walk behind it.

I will enclose it on three sides with a metal carport the same barn red as the house. The trim will be white and the roof a medium gray. On the three enclosed sides the siding will come up four feet, then a five foot open wall and then three feet on top. From this view from the road it will look more like a building and less like a MH.

That five feet open wall will also allow you to see out the windows. The RV carport will be 17 ‘ wide so the sides will be able to be extended.

I haven’t been shooting much as I need to get this project done. I can’t let the MH set out another winter.

The three foot outside dirt berm is now five feet high.

The carport sides will come out to the stakes. There is about five feet level before the slope starts. I don’t want erosion to destroy the carport and MH. The slope starts ten feet out from the MH jack stands which is where the most weight will be.

Gene, what about a retaining wall to ensure that gravel doesn’t go for a ride down the hill?

The road building gravel dries like concrete. It’s not going anywhere. My shoulder is stronger than how they would build a new road. My berm where I shoot is just natural earth and it eroded some this spring.

A neighbor flew over my house and took this picture. To the right of the house is the main propane pad. You can also see a smaller one to the left under the fresh gravel. The shooting berm is in the back.

My pad is ready for the RVport and it arrives Tuesday. It should only take them a day to erect it.

It will be 17.5’ wide and 45 feet long. I’ll be able to put the slides out and still have a 4’ walkway on the side without slides. You can see the concrete propane pad to the lower right. It will have a dedicated 500 gallon tank.

It will be 13’ high with a 4’ wall from the bottom then a 6’ open wall topped with a 3’ wall on top. It should protect the RV and still give me a view out. At least that is the plan.

Smaller than yours at around 21'x24' but when the 3 man crew showed up to put up my carport they had it installed in around 3 hours. Sub-contractors for the carport manufacturer so I imagine they got paid by the job rather than a hourly wage. They had it down to an art form, no wasted movements. They had 2 more carports on their trailer that they said they would set up that day before they headed home. I built the back stud wall and framed the front for the garage door.

With a 500 gal. propane tank are you planning on keeping it heated during the Winter rather than winterizing it?

Thanks. Mine isn’t that much bigger in square feet but it has a snow load of 90 pounds which is twice the normal and 30% more than the required 60 pounds. That means it has a lot of trusses.

No it will be winterized. To keep the basement above freezing it also requires about 500 watts of electricity. I figure a person could pee in the toilet in the middle of the night and flush with antifreeze. The sink won’t be used although I’ll put gallon drinking water jugs in it if I have company. The 500 gallon tank will also be set up to fill barbie sized tanks.

They have been working on it for nine hours and it’s still not done. Must say all four men are working hard and they seem to work as a team. I’m guessing it will be another hour.

That's a real nice addition Gene. Great piece of mind to protect that beautiful motor home. Hope it's rated for all that snow. 🙂

It’s rated for 90 pounds a square foot. To meet code I only needed 60. It will also take 120 mph wind which is more important.

It’s 99% complete. They were four pieces of trim short and will install them Thursday. A long way to drive for a ten minute job but a short drive to get paid the remaining 75%.
