New pup gets some range time......

Post by fortyshooter » Mon May 29, 2023 1:31 pm

Rainy weather last couple days so wanted to get down there this morning to try out my old 45 Hi Point carbine in its new form...the High Tower Bullpup. Couple inches shorter and less clunky looking it seems to shoulder up much easier with a better weight balance. Took my EoTech sight off the Mini-14 and put in on the Pup since I had no other sight for it grabbed some ammo and off I went in between some showers.

Put a shot or two on the plate and saw it was several inches low but windage looked good....not bad for just throwing in on. Made a good elevation adjust with few more shots and it was where I wanted it and got a nice big ragged hole with my 230 gr.Xtreme bullets loaded with 6 of Unique.

All the controls worked fine and the factory 9 round Hi Point mag worked great with no issues. Now the Red Ball 20 round mag was another story.
I had noticed when checking things out after assembly the Red Ball mags would not lock in completely all the time and when firing today the mag would fall out after first shot. The plastic collar seems to be preventing full lock in travel and it won't take much to get it the clearance it needs to latch properly. Also the trigger being remote now adds a bit more mushy travel before you feel it tighten up with a hard let off pull....just the way the HiPoint is and maybe one day a better trigger. It's fine though for all around shooting and never fails to go bang unless mag is empty or has fell out.

I like the feel and easier mobility of the bullpup platform and will fix the lock in issue with the 20 round mags. With 2 1/2 less inches of barrel it would look great with the suppressor screwed on but nope not going thru the SBR paperwork for that right now.

Thanks Gene! I worked on the magazine fit and so far the 20 rounders stay locked in when cycling by hand. Will run it again soon.
What do you think of the looks of the bullpup?

Now that is one firearm that makes sense. I am glad to see one in 45 ACP .I just never could get excited about a nine mm. 45 Getting it done since 1911.

About 15 yds on that one Al. Weather was crap so wanted to first see how it functioned in new stock and get the sight roughly zeroed.
Shot a couple at my swinging plates from 30 yds and no trouble hitting those. Hopefully the Red Ball 20 round mags will function now as well as before in the factory HiPoint stock. Another wet day ahead and the grass keeps growing down there will make for some busy range maintenance by end of week. Oh and also find out what the fire ants have been doing!
