Interesting, I haven’t researched why the battery needs to be disconnected but if it’s just so it doesn’t discharge I’ll see if I can do as you did. Thanks.
The Explorer has to be in neutral to tow it. To be in neutral the key must be on as well for the steering not
to be locked. With the key on it will drain the battery even though radio, heater, ect are turned off. Depending
on what braking system you use it will also drain the battery, but then you cannot disconnect the battery for
that to work as well.
I use a braking system called Air Force One which utilizes the air brakes on the motorhome and that doesn't depend
on the battery, but just having the ignition on will still do it.
We ran a wire from the coach to the battery which keeps it charged and I also carry a Lithium battery pack just in case.
It all works very well, (most of the time).
