Be prepared!

Post by clovishound » Wed Apr 26, 2023 7:10 pm

The Pup and I went down to one of the state parks on the ocean to take pictures. Got some decent shots of laughing gulls. On the way back we thought we'd stop at boneyard beach as it was on the way. I decided not to haul all my gear with me, since I was unlikely to shoot anything but trees in the surf with my normal zoom. Near the end of our shooting, the Pup told be to turn around and look up. There was an eagle in the top of a dead tree right behind me. My telephoto lens was a 20 minute walk to the car and back. I took a couple with my 24-70, but just wasn't close enough. To add insult to injury, a gull was harassing the eagle, who seemed supremely unconcerned. Here's a bad, very heavily cropped image I got with my normal zoom lens.

My daughter let me take a few with her D5600 and 70-300, with an effective 450mm at maximum zoom due to the crop sensor.

I think about what I'd have been able to get with the camera I am familiar with and the long telephoto that was sitting in the trunk.

The birds at the state park were more cooperative.

Any idea what the bird on the right is getting ready to digest?

Love the details in the picture taken with the pup’s camera. Nice definition in the feathers.

My guess is some kind of crab, probably missing some legs. Here is another view of it about to disappear.

The camera manufacturers keep pushing higher resolution sensor cameras, with ever higher specs and features. While I love many of the features on my Z5, and prefer not to shoot with the D3400(my backup) and D5600(the Pup's) cameras, the bottom line is that the quality of the image is usually more dependent on the lens and most especially the photographer, than the camera body. My Z5 full frame has slightly better resolution than the D3400/D5600 half frame, but you would be hard pressed to tell the difference between the final images taken with any of the three. The biggest difference for me is the controls and features on the Z5 fit my shooting style much better.

Here is a tighter crop of that shot.

Beautiful Pictures... we all need to stop and take a look around us now and then.
You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

I don't look back at the things I can no longer do, I just look forward to the things I still can.

Here's a close up of the crab. I looked at the set and didn't see any images that were a better look at it.
