$17,000 rifle system

Post by imeccentric » Thu Nov 03, 2016 5:51 pm

Well, was at the range last week and got to shoot one of these fancy $17,000 rifle systems. A company in Austin makes them and they were sighting in 6 of them to be shipped out. Custom made AR with a special scope attached to a computer. It tells you the exact distance to target, temperature, wind, humidity, topography, etc. Then it tells you exactly where to put the cross hairs to hit the target. They have even beaten military sniper teams in competition. Impressive to say the least. Asked him if he had ever fired a 45-70 and he said no. Told him my loads were only about 60% with a 350 grain lead bullet for deer. Need to keep velocity down hence the light loads. Let him shoot what I had left and a big smile came across his face. He just said "wow". Guess I'll have to make it a practice to keep some heavier loads on hand " just in case". I also told him that if there is ever an emp then he will have to resort to the original army assault weapon, the lever action 45-70.

For $17K I would want a cup holder on it. :( It must have been a blast to shoot.

$17k is a cheap price to pay when lives are on the line.
Also, just for some perspective, the Knights Armament M110 SR25, with deployment kit is valued at$25k

Would have loved to have seen that system. Would love to shoot a .45'70 as well

My friend in Alaska has some AR's that he has $20K into. But then living in Alaska he can own a full auto.

A good friend of mine built his AR in .308 caliber. With recent purchase of a suppressor system, I think it's now over 10K. (Too steep a price tag for me). I've shot it, and wow, does it ever shoot great!

As long as the guys have money and enjoy them, I'm all for it. For those who spend 50k on a hunt, I can't blame them. But for me, I'm just a backwoods bumpkin who is happy going old school. Yes, I have guns than can shoot consistently to 600 yards, but I'm happiest with a lever action, open sights and close shots. Not to mention a plaid flannel jacket. And yes, I am old. :)

I mirror all you said -- except for two points.
I don't have any guns that will reach out to 600 yards....
My plaid flannel is a vest....

Definitely love iron sights, and am old school on the elder side.
Glad to have my Henry! :D
