last Saturday was a fun day

Post by bandit1250 » Wed Nov 02, 2016 9:27 am

Last Saturday I left very early to go to the York, Pa. gun show and wanted enough time to stop and have a good breakfast and get there at opening time. I got there as they were opening and the line was very long but they had two pay to get in lines so it moved quite well. I was a little in a hurry to get through the show and back to Hagerstown to the drag races as my friend was going to have his '65 Plymouth there for the final race for him this year. I love drag racing although I don't run anymore due to the very high cost and my age now the motor cycle racing is over. This '65 Plymouth of my friends is a beast. It is 940 horse power and 1140 with the 200 horse power shot of nitrous. It is heavy for its class at 3200lb and most in the class are under 2400lb. He still usually qualifies in the top three cars out of the fastest 16 that get in. This car runs the 1/8 mile in 4.9sec @ 144mph. It does the quarter mile in 7.7sec. @upper 170's. That is hauling the mail for a 3200lb. car. Here is a few pictures of this Mopar.

Here he had to give a .6sec. head start to the other car and ran him down at the finish line.

This picture shows how far down the track he was and the front tires are still in the air. The pylon you see ahead of the car is the 1/8 mile line. This was a qualifying run that had the bump spot at that time in qualifying at a 5.6sec. He ran a 4.95sec. on this pass.
