Walmart Leaves Portland, Oregon
Walmart Leaves Portland, Oregon
Sad. Seen this report of Walmart leaving Portland, due to crime. Seems city does not want to fight crime. I do like Walmart’s price of ammo. Sad to see that crime is taking over a city. How far will this spread?

Im surprised more havent pulled out of Ca. When you can shoplift up to 1k without being thrown in jail how many businesses can take that and survive. And look what it does to prices for the honest customer.

It’s also happening elsewhere. I watched a video where 22 people stormed a Walmart store and looted it in just a few minutes. The police wouldn’t even investigate it saying they didn’t have the resources.

Your right about that Gene, lots of shortage of police and shoplifting is probably at bottom of priorities

this is a perfectly valid topic of discussion and I want to thank those who have responded for keeping politics OUT of this thread .... my hope is that will continue to be the case

Yes, and we like it that way!
I was in Portland two weeks ago, and it was looking better than it did a year ago, but there are still tents up in the streets.

A doctor I see occasionally is in NW Portland, right up against the west hills. I can get there easily on back roads. Otherwise we stay out of Portland.

Re: Walmart Leaves Portland, Oregon
It truly IS a shame. Asheville, NC which has always been a Western North Carolina tourist town is reporting a 31% increase in crime, along with a huge homeless population. There are reports of many other related problems. The police force has been reduced by about 40%.
Asheville is only about 25 miles to my north.

It's getting that way here in my relatively small Eastern WA city. I know that employee's at Harbor Freight and Fred Myers here are told to make no attempt to stop shoplifters, I imagine it's the same at all major stores. Better to just raise prices to account for the losses than risk employee's (or the shoplifters) being injured.
Re: Walmart Leaves Portland, Oregon
Great point: decrease in police force = rise in crime! So, the sells of firearm rise? Makes sense.
