Handgun day at the range

Post by Hatchdog » Sun Feb 05, 2023 12:00 pm

Went to the local rifle club range yesterday and shot three handguns. Ruger Single Seven to do some 32 H&R load development, Ruger Mk IV 22-45 to sight in at 25 yards and my CZ 75-B to get some more range time in plus confirm feeding issue with my Hornady XTP reloads.

First up was the Single Seven which came to an abrupt end with a stuck bullet. See details here: http://henryrifleforums.com/viewtopic.p ... 07#p216666

Next was the Mk IV at 25 yards. I had previously done an ammo test at a shorter distance but wanted a 25 yard zero. First five shots were high so I lowered the sight 10 clicks and the impact dropped accordingly. After I retrieved the target I decided the center of the group was still a bit high so dropped the sight two more clicks. Man do I like that pistol.

Finally I shot my CZ 9mm at 25 yards. On my previous range trip when shooting my reloads using the Hornady 115 gr XTP-HP occasionally it would not return to full battery. I had hoped (and still do) that due to the low percentage of problems vs shots fired and that this load functioned perfectly in two other 9mm’s that the issue was because of a new gun needing some range time. After shooting it the first time I gave it a good cleaning and lube. But I had a repeat of the issue yesterday at about the same low failure rate. In addition to the XTP’s I shot some 115 FMJ reloads, 115 plated with a flat point and some 115’s with a plated RN. All three of these reloads shot fine without a problem. I had brought some factory HP’s but I forgot to shoot them.

An interesting side note, most of the XTP’s impacted the target in the center diamond and all the other loads fired low and left. Probably the shooter.

Pretty nice day for February with the temp around 40 and some filtered sunshine. This is the outdoor handgun range with target stands out to 25 yards.

Nice Hatch. Love those CZ's myself. Still have 2 of them a 97 in 45ACP and a P09 in 9mm. 19 round magazine gotta love 19 rounds of 9mm in a handgun.

Those XTP's do work. Looks like a good, fun range day Hatch.
Did you get that stuck bullet out?

Edit: Opps, saw the fix in other thread. Good going!

It was a pretty nice day at around 40. That snow is leftover from our very snowy November and December. Sure looking forward to spring.
