We have a Generac 22K generator scheduled to go in by mid April and I'm still working on my side yard project when weather is decent.
There is a shop up in Richmond that is full service gunsmithing and does barrel threading. I will take my 1895 GS "Remlin" up there and see about getting the barrel threaded for my suppressor. Going to shoot low pressure subsonic 405 gr. loads thru that for steel banging.

Glad I bought that Marlin 1895 some years ago as the prices today are way up there now. Even though made by Remmie I picked the best out of the 6 the shop had and the fit and finish is really good on this one. Runs fine with no issues.

Ours was installed last Fall and we love it. We lost power a couple of weeks ago for three hours. The Generac took about
three seconds to come on line and it even powers my work shop. Life just goes on normally. When the power comes back on
there is no disruption at all. We love it.

We had one in VA and one of the first projects on the list here was the 22k generac. It powers the house, the shops and the barn. Comes on automatically, runs until the power comes back on, and more impportantly, tests the power to insure it's right and stays on, then shuts down... and goes into "Standby" mode. We pay a flat monthly fee and OUR Genny has it's own communicator and talks to the home office. They are monitoring the genny 24/7. If it gets a fault, they know, and can often cure the fault remotely from an hour away in the office. If not, they would call and let us know they are sending a tech, it's under warranty for ten years. If it isn't warranty work, there is NO charge for the service call, only parts. That monthly fee also covers the twice annual service. Spring and fall. Once a year they change the oil and every other year they replace the battery.

I can no longer do those things.

Yep last time our power went out was right before Christmas 2022 and I got tired of stringing extension cords trying to run a few basics with my 2200 watt Honda portable. Several homes in the neighborhood have the setup and it will run on Natural Gas.

When we got our there was a chip shortage but it came with an email address to send it the serial number.
The chip came within a few days and now I can monitor it remotely.
Also I bought the battery heater and oil filter heater. When the tech installed it he said not to hook up the battery heater
because he'd seen some batteries melted.
We also purchased the extended service contract.
Every Monday morning it starts up, runs a self diagnosis and runs for 7 minutes.
We love it for the peace of mind when we travel in the Winter.

I had a 9.5 Kw portable generator, but had to drag it out, fire it up, connect it to the house and manually transfer power. It ran the heat, well pump and several rooms in the house, but it was always a pain to run. Also, since it ran on gasoline, it needed to be refueled about every 10-12 hours. That meant I also had to store gasoline, which I hated. Since we don't have natural gas our generator runs on propane. It run for a 18 hour outage last year and it used less than 3% of a 500 gal. tank. So we are very pleased.

Our farmhouse in VA had that same 500 gallon Propane tank. The Genny in VA ran a self test every Sunday for 1/2 hour. Here in OK we have the Natural Gas line coming off the main pipeline. We have a never ending supply unless the main line goes down for some reason. Our genny here self tests on Monday at noon for half an hour, or when the monitoring station runs a test.

Is natural gas cheaper than propane? Been using propane at $3.89 gallon to heat the 5th wheel a friend has been staying in and it's been expensive. There's a natural gas line down the road but would be very expensive to run it up to my place especially since I'm on a dead end road.

Natural gas is cheaper but does not have the BTUs of propane. We contract our propane in the Summer on a contract for the year. In that way we get the cheapest price. What we pay is a lot cheaper than what you pay for campers to be fueled a little at a time. We buy hundreds of gallons at once to be delivered as we need them.

Nat. gas is not as efficient as propane to run a generator. However if you have the line in your neighborhood and have it to heat the home it is a good way to go. We only use it to heat the house and the existing line and meter are fine for the generator addition, Strange thing is that the street right behind us was the last to be put in I think back in 1967 and it does not have a natural gas line so propane tanks used there for gas logs or generators.

We topped off our propane tank this past November. Our price was $2.65 per gal. I really expected it to be more expensive, but I’m not complaining.
