Mind if I ask where you found this load data, especially for the 200gr swc's? 7.2gr BE-86 seems high for the .45 acp. Thanks.

Lyman book iirc,

Easy day today. Loaded up 150 .223 rounds for plinking and target fun. Then tossed 200 more cases in the tumbler. Maybe tomorrow, depending on the weather, I'll get those 200 cases prepped and read for powder and bullets.

DsGrouse, good info. Which Lyman manual is that? I have the #50 Lyman and I don't have the BE-86 data in it. Maybe the cast manual? Thanks.
BE-86 is a good powder that I'm starting to like.

Lyman 51, I have the cast one also I will look and see if it is there also.
I have both the 50 and 51, but use the 51 quite a bit more.
The Alliant web page says BE86 max is 6.7 for 200gr lsc.. So I see why there is some reason for concern.
I just checked the hornaday and lyman cast book. BE86 is not in either of those.

BE86 is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. It meters very well, works in my 40 sw, 45lc, 38spl, 357 mag and 45 acp.

Ahh, thanks for posting that. Looks like I need #51.
Re: What did you do at your reloading bench today?
Loaded up 20 .357 cartridges for use in a Smith K frame. I used 7.0 grains of Unique and a Hornady 158 gr XTP. Way too much bullet for what I want and this load would be better served with a plated or coated bullet but the XTP was all I had on hand. Velocity should come in around 950 - 1000 fps. I have a buddy who wants to shoot his new pistol so hopefully we’ll meet up next week and the indoor range. If I like this load I’ll probably pick up some cheaper bullets and load some more up. I used the nickel cases to keep these low velocity rounds separate from my standard loads.

Hatch, I use the same load (and XTP) for my .357 pistols. I also use the Nickle for my pistols only and brass for my Henry loads to keep them separated. Looks like factory new !

loaded another 98 cases of 230 grain extreme die cut HP, COAL 1.210, 6.7 grns of BE-86

Good to hear, I’m looking forward to unloading the cases next week. I took a look at Berry’s plated bullets and read they can withstand velocities up to 1250 fps so this load should work great with the Berrys. I have loaded up a bunch of Berrys in 38 special cases (still have some) but I’m out of them. I’ve seen them around locally so next time I’m in the LGS that stocks bullets I’ll pick up a box.runnin n gunnin wrote: ↑Thu Jan 12, 2023 10:29 amHatch, I use the same load (and XTP) for my .357 pistols.
