Our Morning Coffee and Weather

Got a lot done yesterday. Got two crazy cows caught and penned. Got 5 crazy calves caught and hauled over to other farm where the big group of weaned calves is penned. Did some errands in town. Got back in evening to my place and met my son when he git off work and we got one small calf casterated that i had kept up in a pen from the morning. The two crazy cows were really pissed by this time. One made a serious effert to get me but she couldnt do anything to the heavy metal pipe corral, (i expect her head will be sore this morning from the way she was hitting the pipe.) The other cow made two circles in the pen to get up a good head of steam and made a truely impressive effert at jumping over the corral. Its maybe six and a half feet high. She came surprising close but couldnt manage it, and fell side ways in something of a belly flop landing on her side which took a tiny bit of steam out of her sails. So i figure she may be a bit sore this morning too. Im feeding them hay in there. They got water from a freeze proof tank in that pen so they are not leaving till they go to the salebarn on the tenth. I got No use for a crazy fool, be it a woman or a cow.

That's how it started out for me. I suggest you get tested and find out.

28 with a day where the temp will fall as the day progresses. Low tonight is expected to be in the single digits. Yesterday I got 11” of snow here at my place and some surrounding areas got several inches more than me. As it started piling up I couldn’t help myself and went out and did some blowing and plowing. I plowed the driveway in the front of my house as it has a pretty steep but short hill but didn’t plow behind my house to the shop. Man, what a difference between the plowed and unplowed places. Of course after I plowed and snowblowed another 4-5” inches came down. So today I’ll re-do those areas and plow the untouched areas. The temps yesterday and overnight stayed in the upper 20’s so the snow will be pretty easy to move.

My poor dog is really struggling to get thru the snow. He is leaving trails everywhere he walks and then when he comes in he is covered with snowballs that pinch and pull on his hair. Our hikes to the bottom of the property are over for a bit but I’ll plow a nice trail for some getting around and burning energy.

It's just one true false question.
It involves putting a stick up your nose and tickling your brain.
I'm fortunate that I have Carol to get groceries and such. Living alone you would have to depend on
deliveries. The serious nature of this is that if you infect someone who has a compromised immune
system, it could kill them.

Believe me when I say that I hate this isolation, because I do, but I'm trying to do the right thing.

I'm finally getting over a cold/flu I've had for the last couple of weeks. Didn't feel really terrible, congested, cough, slight temp. Worst symptom was increased shortness of breath which I always have anyway due to my COPD. I haven't had a cold since having a very mild case of Covid a couple of years ago so it might be something I will have to put up with future colds, etc.

I did do a couple of at home Covid tests and also had a drive-thru test and they were all negative.

A couple of nurses I've talked to said there are a lot of non-Covid respiratory illnesses going around.

27 on its way to 58 under a clear, Carolina Blue Sky .... heaviest frost of this fall .... rain back in the forecast for tomorrow .... a Geek from Best Buy is due this morning to link our laptops to a new printer we purchased for use in our camper .... any collards left in the field should now be perfect for harvest

HA!, I’ve never thought about that. When you hit the first round about on 395 going south that’s the road to my place. Thru the town of Deer Park and then about three miles outside of town. Now every time I drive past or on Hatch Rd I’ll think that it’s named for me.

20 here at my place but the surrounding area has pockets of cold up to minus 14 in Winthrop. Spokane itself is showing 14 so my 20 is balmy. We are entering into a dry but cold spell with lows possible in single digits and highs in the mid 20’s.

Yesterday I plowed/blowed/shoveled up the mess from Wednesday. I had done the front part of my road twice before so it wasn’t too bad but the rear part had both a 4” snowfall from a week ago and Wednesday’s 11 inches. So for that I had to bring out the big dog. I used the tractor to move the bulk of the snow and then the Ranger to do the clean up. Needless to say, I had a really fun play day yesterday.

It was 57° earlier in the morning while walking the dogs. It's currently 67° with overcast skies and light mist. That should clear up and be a pretty nice afternoon. I just had cereal and a pop tart this morning along with my coffee.

A good morning got the two trailer loads of calves off to the sale yesterday with no hitches. They did well so my tiny corner of the world is acceptable for the near term anyway. Still have the crazy cows in the corral at the other farm . They will load out next week, hopefully without anyone getting trampled or mushed up. When i threw hay in their pen yesterday the black one only pawed the ground one time, so they are settling down a teeny bit. Coffee good today. Hope all well today for the rest of you as well.
