A Trek to Cabela's Cheektowaga NY

I went to visit my son yesterday. He lives outside Rochester. I picked him up and headed to the Buffalo area. I wanted to go to Cabela's as I just found out there was one in Cheektowaga. It was a small store, laid out the same as the one north of Denver. I enjoyed looking around still. Prices were high, but there were sales. I looked at more things that time allowed for in Denver.

I saw on the website that some Alaskan show had a contest with Buck 119's going. Buck made special 119's in tins for Cabelas. If you found one of 8 signed by CJ Buck, you kept it free of charge. I found the display, but not one of the "8".

I was invited to a friend's 50th birthday later that night, so I got him a couple of bore snakes for his handguns.

I got some 36 caliber .375 lead balls for my air shotgun. Apparently they are great on rabbits.

They had bins of boot socks all over the store. I tried a four pack.

Then my son wanted to go to Dick's sporting goods across the street at a large mall. I dropped him off and looked for a parking place. He was in the Buffalo Bill's clothing area when I got there. I bought him what he had picked out and then we looked for a place to eat. Lunch and then we were off.

I made the party an hour late. He liked his gifts.

My overall impression of the stores? Cabela's was always a great mail order place. I'll stick to the internet with them. I still don't like malls. Sears is not what it used to be at all. (I got a spot outside Sears) All in all, I'm glad I saw my son and this trip makes my memories of that glorious Cabela's in Kansas City all that better.

I don't think there is a Cabelas store in all of California.

I tend to find decent ammo deals and availability from Cabelas online and recently got a great deal on a scope. The scope I wanted was 10% off, came with free shipping and A FREE BURRIS SCOPE MOUNT! Crazy good deal.

If nothing else I could see using the free ship to store option if there was one locally.

Glad that you got to see your son, had a nice time and got some shopping in. I am within about an hour and a half of the Cabela's in Hamburg. I have bought a couple of rifles, a handgun, knives, ammo, clothing, boots, holsters and much more there. I like their deli and their Buffalo burgers. Granted, their prices, except possibly some sales, are no bargain. I also like to buy from my LGS, but I find it a great way to spend a few hours in their mammoth store and just walk from department to department. They also have a bargain cave where you can get some good deals on some items that may have a slight defect. Used guns and their gun library with the really expensive Classic firearms are interesting also. But I really enjoy their many mounts and real-life wildlife displays. Just a sampling here:

Your "wildlife" photos are very, very nice, Dutch. Although I really like the variety of displays and stuff at our KCKS Cabelas (Dave called our store here "...that glorious Cabela's in Kansas City..."), the one sporting center store that really impressed me is the Bass Pro Shop in Independence, MO. The wildlife displays there are exceptional, and they also have very large, nicely done fish tanks throughout the store. Of course, fish and fishing equipment are their things-to-do! Enjoyed your post along with Dave's visit & trek story.

Dave, it sounds like a good day for sure. Glad you got to spend some time with your son. I hit Cabela's ocaisionaly to see what I can add to the .22 stash. I just picked up a brick of Norma Tac that they had marked down and with my military discount it priced out at 11 cents a round.
Most of their prices are higher than I would like but sales help.

You mentioned the Cabelas in KCKS. I was in there this last week, and asked a couple of service folk what they might know about the Bass Pro Shop acquisition as relates to their store. I know you remember that this was a fairly large Cabelas, and would think that BPS would keep it going in some form or another. One fellow said he knew nothing, but the second one said the KCKS store would remain, and under the Cabelas name! That was a surprise to hear. Anyway, shall see what comes about. My preference is that it stays, of course. Especially as their ammo inventory, although high as in most stores, is still stocked quite well.

The closest Cabela's here is in Calgary and that's where I bought my Henry. It's a pretty big store, and very nice inside with wildlife displays similar to what Deadwood Ditch posted. One of the sales guys there told me it's not near as big as some US stores though. It's one of the few places in Alberta to buy a Henry though. I sure hope I never walk in there and see an original 1860 H011 on the shelf...That would be a bad/good day for sure....very bad/good....

Used to go to the Hartford ct. Store quite offten.
Not anymore sence the ny unsafe act.
They won't sell anything I would want , I don't drive that far to get teeshirts and hats.
