Official 2016 Baseball Thread
Re: Official 2016 Baseball Thread
I thought the Giants were going to take it, too, when they kept their 5-2 lead in the 8th. Since the West Coast time had us up so late, I let it go and hit the sack. Today was surprised & quite happy that the Cubbies came through. That top of the ninth must have been an exciting inning.
With the KC Royals in their winter slumber, it's been fun rooting for the Cubbies as my other very favorite team! It's been a long time since Chicago has seen the WS......

It was exciting and frustrating if you were cheering for the Giants. I had a vested business interest in the Giants success but it wasn't meant to be.
I'm not a big Giant's fan so I don't really understand the pitching decisions in the 9th. Do they not have a closer? Seems like they just brought in a few random relief pitchers and tried to match up with each Cubs batter.

The Cubs coming back in the top of the ninth was one of the best playoff games I've ever seen. I had the TV on during the entire game but was doing other things and would only be checking the score. Then at the top of the 9th I set down to watch it.

Game time, Cubs and Dodgers and a Bud Light tonight. I just got home after being on the road most of the day, pretty beat, hope I can stay awake for the whole game. I saw that the Indians are two up on the Blue Jays after their win today.

None of my favorite teams are in the playoffs. I just like the game, my favorite sport since 1954. Yankees, Reds and Phillies. You have to have options.
Someone once said that the saddest day of the year is the day that baseball season ends. I guess that's a matter of opinion.

Remember Jack Brickhouse?
"HEY! HEY!"
Cubbies had a great bottom of the eighth inning!!
Montero -- Grand Slam (the third pinch-hit grand slam in postseason history!)
Fowler -- Solo HR
End of Game
Cubbies 8
LA 4
Cubbies take Game One of series.

Wow Cleveland is one game away from the World Series. Undefeated so far in the post season.

I've selected Cleveland as the team I'm cheering for now. Or basically any team but the cubs!

I kind of like the Cubs 'losing' streak. Let's keep it intact and bring another championship to Cleveland this year.

As my team/teams did not even make the playoffs this year I think that since the Cubs haven't won a World Series since 1908 that they deserve it this year, but I am sure that the Indian's fans here see it differently.
It has been since 1948 for them. Personally, I would just like to see an interesting World Series with lots of excitement and drama and some terrific plays. I really would like it to go at least six games. We shall see, starting Tuesday evening in Cleveland. Baseball is my favorite game.

I'm a Cub's fan now.
It was lovely to see them take down the Dodgers.
Somebody's historic streak will end.

Indeed -- Baseball is the American Game!
I've been a Cubbies fan since grade school. The person who got me interested in them was my Grandmother....an ardent fan of this team! She took me to Wrigley Field way back then when I was an early teen. I still remember watching Ernie Banks, Ron Santo, Billy Williams play Cubs ball. A lot of fun.
It has been a long time since the Cubbies have played in a WS (1945), and as Dutch mentioned, their last WS win was in 1908 -- a century and 8 years ago! (They won back-to-back championships in 1907 & 1908). If the fans and Cubs players over the years believed and acted as "Mr. Cub" once said, there have been many years of good sportsmanship at Wrigley. "The only way to prove that you're a good sport is to lose." - Ernie Banks
I agree with Dutch....an exciting WS this year with great ball-playing will be the very best!!
