Good OTC .357 Hunting Rounds?

I'm aware that a lot of you guys load your own rounds, but unfortunately, I'm not in a position to do that at this time.

That being said, I'm trying to stock up on decent OTC hunting rounds. I have small supply of the Hornady Leverevolution .357 in 140 grain, but those are darn near impossible to find anymore.

What suggestions would you guys have? I will primarily be shooting pigs here in East Texas.

I would go with Hornady Critical Defense or any other critical duty rounds in 158 or more grains.

Go with Underwood cast large flat point 158 gr. or heavier. My own 180 gr. loads will knock the crap out of things for a .357

You can't go wrong with any standard full power 158 grain HP or SP for deer. I've also had great accuracy from Barnes 140 grain copper loads. For deer hunting, I'd stay away from lighter weight bullet loads unless your quarry' is coyotes and such.

I've used full power 158 gr soft points for whitetail. The American Eagle loads work very well. Good luck.

I bought Buffulo Bore 180 and 158 grain. I have not hunted with them. But, that is what I bought them for, if I decide to hunt with a .357. For now, I have been taking my 30-30. The rounds cost about as much as 30-30s though.

First let me say that as a northern boy all my life I have never experienced a pig hunt. But, from what I have read about boars possibly attacking a hunter I would buy premium hard cast ammo like Grizzley or similar. This is what I carry in my woods gun that is for protection from bears, cougars, wolves and scumbags. It’s expensive at $2 + per shot but could possible make a difference between a wounded fierce animal and a dead one.

If I had to deal with wild hogs I would be using hot 45 Colt or 44 Magnum with 250+ hard cast or just fire up my Marlin 1895 .45-70.

When I hunt deer with a handgun, I use Sellior and Beloit 158 grain .357 jacketed soft points. They shoot accurately out of my 6" 686 and my Henry BB steel .357 carbine. When I purchased them, they were not expensive. Around .50 per round. Midway USA says they have mixed availability at $46.99 a box of 50.

Find any 158 grn jsp in .357. It should do well in the Henry.

I still have some hard cast 180 grain Buffalo Bore bear loads. NOT fun to shoot in a small revolver, but I'm ready for any four-legged critter up here that becomes a threat.

I loaded a bunch of 180 grain xtp with 13 grains of IMR 4227. I haven't chrono'd them out of my revolver or my rifle yet. Lee says max is 13.7 grains at 1325fps and the minimum is 12.7 at 1185
Lyman says 11.7 at 1176 with a max of 14.6 for 1512fps out of a rifle
