Range Report: morning shoot
The sun has barely been up for five minutes and I shot a cylinder of Quiets at the spinners to the east.
This Uberti Cattleman is one of my favorite pistols. The gutter sights makes it hard to aim so it’s not my most accurate. Loading it and unloading the spent brass just seems natural. I think I fondle it more than I shoot it.

Re: Range Report: morning shoot
With you all the way on the loading and unloading of a single action revolver. I enjoy it and it slows down my shooting just enough to keep my focus sharp. By contrast, I find loading the magazine in a bolt rifle or a semi auto to be annoying when I'm shooting. That's just me, of course. I know plenty of shooters who hate single actions for the very thing I like about them. Some of them even think all single actions belong in a museum. No problem. Each to their own.
Re: Range Report: morning shoot
Sir Henry, is your revolver on the small side? Looks small in your hands. I too like loading and unloading single actions tho I only have two. When it comes to loading rifle mags I found that if it’s a larger capacity mag I only load 5 rounds, shoot and then reload. This slows me down and keeps me from shooting just to empty the mag. Same thing with larger capacity semi pistol mags. And also those awful Henry Big Boys……..

Re: Range Report: morning shoot
I believe it’s 7/8 scale of an 1873 Colt. With the small size I can unload the brass with one hand. I have usually load ten rounds in my magazines even if they hold 15 like the new 10/22 mags.Hatchdog wrote: ↑Sat Oct 22, 2022 10:49 amSir Henry, is your revolver on the small side? Gene, is that a 10 shot or 12 shot Uberti?

It’s a six shooter. I have a Ruger Single Ten and an H&R Nine shot breaktop. It’s actually the easiest to unload.

Re: Range Report: morning shoot
Do you have the Stallion or the Cattleman? Just curious.
If it's the scaled down Uberti, about the same size as your Single Ten, it should be the Stallion. The Stallion is also available in a 10 shot version.
The Uberti Cattleman 22 LR is a full size Colt, also available in 45 Colt and all the other standard cartridges. That's what I had. Can get it in a 6 or 12 shot. I had the 12 shot. Definitely bigger than a Single Ten. Feels just like the 45 Colt in the hand, not at all like a 22. I see a lot more of these around than the Stallion.

Uberti doesn't stamp model labels on their Colt clones, so you might want to look at the box if you still have it.

Re: Range Report: morning shoot
On my Uberti Cattleman II, there is a partial model designation. "Mod 1873 CAL .45 Colt". It is missing the "Cattleman II" text.

It could be a Stallion. I had all the boxes to my firearms that I bought new but left them in Seattle.North Country Gal wrote: ↑Sat Oct 22, 2022 6:09 pmDo you have the Stallion or the Cattleman? Just curious.

Re: Range Report: morning shoot
It’s a Cattleman and is 11” long with a 5.5” barrel and weighs 2.3 pounds. Is this full size? I had two Ruger Vaqueros in 44-40. The hammers had been modified to shoot Cowboy Action by Texas Gun Runner. They had the birds head grip.
This is not one of mine however they looked very similar. I sold them before leaving Seattle.

Re: Range Report: morning shoot
That would be the listed weight of the Cattleman, yes. Best way to be sure is to measure the diameter of the cylinder. If it's a Cattleman, it will measure 1.675 across the flats. A Stallion would be smaller.
There are two sizes of the Ruger Vaquero. The original Vaqueros were full sized Blackhawks and will be marked Vaquero. Ruger then downsized the Vaquero to make it more the size of a Colt for the Cowboy action crowd. These will be marked New Vaquero. The New Vaquero is close to the size and dimension of a Colt 1873, but not identical. Still enough difference for me to much prefer the Colt. A Colt 1873 fits my hand like a glove and I can cock it without having to alter my grip. Not so with the New Vaquero.

It’s 1.446” across the widest measurement. My Cimarron in 38 has the same size frame and cylinder. The 38 actually read 1.45 even.North Country Gal wrote: ↑Sun Oct 23, 2022 11:29 amThat would be the listed weight of the Cattleman, yes. Has to be the Stallion, then. Sure looks smaller than a Cattleman.

I’m still trying to confirm. I might email Uberti with the serial number. For quality these are two of my best. I visited a couple gun stores and am looking for more SA’s.North Country Gal wrote: ↑Mon Oct 24, 2022 4:13 pmHas to be the Stallion, then. Sure looks smaller than a Cattleman.

Re: Range Report: morning shoot
As I mentioned in your other post, SAs are hard to find these days. Keep looking for used.
