Range Report: Walther P22 vs Ruger SR22
Quality is about the same for both and they both feel about the same in my hand. I prefer the safety on the Ruger only because it’s marked red when hot.
The spring release on the magazine is on the left side of the Walther which makes it a lot easier to work left handed if you don’t have the thumb saver. You can’t really tell from the picture but the release on the Ruger doesn’t give you enough to work by hand.
Right handed the Ruger is easier to load the magazine. I shoot both right and left but usually load left handed.
The magazine release on the Walther is in the finger guard and is equal left and right. The Ruger has a side magazine release and it’s harder to release left handed. The Walther also has a slide lock so you don’t need an exterior trigger lock. You can see it right above the trigger.
As far as accuracy I didn’t put out a target to really try all that hard. I promised a report so made a quick shoot and report. The joys of being a home owner has priority.

Get you some targets Gene so you don't have to shoot up the toilet tank !!
Great report on pistol comparison and which one do you like best?

Thanks for the report. Yeah, which one do you prefer? Not that old revolver me has any plans to go out and buy one of those new-fangled automatic loading pistols. Just curious.

When the crapper breaks, got no place to stay.

I like them equal although I do have a special liking for Walther. I had dupuytren’s contracture and needed hand surgery. I couldn’t work the slide on most semi’s so I bought a PK380. Because they are similar I’m going to say I like the P22 over the SR22.North Country Gal wrote: ↑Fri Oct 07, 2022 5:43 pmThanks for the report. Yeah, which one do you prefer? I was going to guess Ruger. Except for the toilet, looks like you had a good day.

I’ve owned more Walther pistols than Rugers. I had a P38 in 9MM made in 1943, a PPKs in 380, a PPK and a PP in .22LR. I sold the .22’s before I left Washington and wish I still had them. They were fun shooters.
Edit: I’ve owned more Walther semi-autos. I’ve owned more Ruger pistols if you count wheel guns

Nice report Gene. Too bad about the toilet.
I'm with NCG with this one. I'll keep my .22 revolvers. If I had to purchase another .22 semi automatic, I think I'd lean to the Glock. Just me.
I like how you showed all the features of each gun. It sure makes someone aware of the differences in two guns that look similar.

Good point on the little details that can make or break a gun as your favorite once you actually start using them. Pretty hard to tell just inspecting them, sometimes.
For sure, Dave, hang on to any Ruger 22 revolvers. All brands of revolvers are behind in revolver production right now, but Ruger is one of the worst if you plan to order a new revolver. I know, because I've tried to order some single action Rugers, lately. Mission impossible, right now.
