Yes have had my eye on the new Colt Anaconda for a while and found a 6 inch one at a good price under typical retail. Picked it up this morning and off to the range with a bunch of different 44 Mag loads to try.
The action is really slick and smooth especially the DA pull. However if I have one little complaint the single action trigger pull could be about 2 lbs.
less. There is no creep in the trigger pull at all....you just apply finger pressure and it goes click with no monkey motion. Fit and finish was right on
everywhere on the revolver. The cylinder just about closes itself from its weight and locks right up. Cylinder gap right at .004 and the chamber throats are .4315 with a .431 Missouri cast bullet just slipping in.
First shots were 200 and 240 grain plated Xtreme and MB cast coated bullets with moderate 44 mag loads with Red Dot, Unique and Power Pistol powders. Hotter loads were with Alliant 2400. Results today as you look at the targets show both the MB 200 RN and 240 K SWC bullets with the Unique load were the best which is fine with me. As the loads got hotter like the XTP loads the impact was lower and right. The sights were not touched as it came out the box. The double action shots worked out really well nice and smooth. Target distance was 13 yds. and shooting position standing with 2 hand hold.
I had bought wood grips for it ahead of time and they fit the new Python as well as the new Anaconda acccording to the makers info.
They looked great but they would move when you fired the revolver as you could feel the revolver rock back within the grip no matter how tight you turned the screw. Have put the rubber grips back on until I get with the grip maker. Really the factory grips feel really solid and work well.
Anyway it was a full range day and the mobile shooting platform came in handy with the umbrella up giving shade on a 72 F day.
The Anaconda now cleaned up and still tight as ever and will see more use soon now that I know what load to put together.
That snake bite on my left hand...shooting hand... is healing up tonight!
