A Couple 22s on the Range
I managed to get down to the range this morning to do some shooting. It was a chance to try out my new bench setup (Cheap Bench Setup) to see if it works for long guns. I used a folding table with adjustable leg height, and a folding step ladder for a seat.
As you'll see throughout the post, the setup worked surprisingly well. I needed to adapt, but I did. I brought two rifles down. The CZ455 with the Nikon Scope, and my Henry Golden Boy. Both are shooters. The Golden Boy has factory open sights. I had not shot either in a couple years due to the move and waiting to finish the range.
First up would be the CZ, I wanted to see if she was still a tack driver. I loaded up five rounds of Remington .22 match lead round nose and took my time. My target? A number of 1" dots drawn on some paper and set 25 yards downrange. I knocked out the first group. All the groups would be Five Shot Groups at 25 yards.
Not bad, but I thought I could do better and loaded up the second five rounds and let er rip.
I was good with it, but I knew the CZ could do better. It has been a while but I wanted a tighter aiming point. I had the crossed lines on the paper for that, but they were hard to see. I walked downrange and fattened up two pairs.
The first shots at the fat lines produced a nice tight group with one called flyer. I made an adjustment to the scope, two clicks up and two clicks right.
The next shots at the fat lines produced a REALLY nice group though I pulled one out. Me, not the CZ....
I put the CZ back on the seat of the Ranger and moved to the Golden Boy with the open sights.

Re: A Couple 22s on the Range
Next up was the Golden Boy, she looks good and shoots good too.
I settled in behind the gun and then realized I didn't remember what sight picture I had used with this gun. That buckhorn sight isn't a target sight.
I put the brass bead at the top of the buckhorn and centered it from left to right as best I could and squeezed the trigger. Pop... downrange went the first shot in three years from this pretty little 22.
I leaned to my left and looked in the spotting scope. The shot was eight inches high and way to the right.
That had to be the wrong sight picture. The last time I shot this gun it shot a ragged hole center mass.
Hmmm, I held the brass bead just above the white diamond and put that picture on a six o'clock hold on a pink ball on the target. Squeeeeze the trigger and pop goes the weasel. Boo yah... dead center at 25 yards. I shot the rest of the eight shots and was good with it.
I had been at it over an hour and packed up and went back inside. For reference, the ruler shows the group sizes compared to the markings.
Take a look at that last group fired by the CZ... that rifle can stack them in there.
For open sights at 25 yards, the Golden Boy did fine after three years. Next time, I'll shoot from 15 at old playing cards...
That's fun.
I'll clean the rifles tomorrow while Tina is at her CCW Class. I'm supposed to join them on the range in the afternoon. Looking forward to it.
I think next on the range will be the Big Boy Carbine.

Note: the Golden Boy target for some reason rotated vertically. It should show the three shots outside the pink below the dot.

Nice shooting, Marine. Gotta love those CZs.
Best of luck to Tina on her class, not that there's any doubt about her passing. She had a good teacher.

Great report. Gotta love the accuracy of the CZ’s. The GB did good too.

That is great shooting with the iron sights on the Henry and you have the CZ dialed in as well. A good day on the range !
Re: A Couple 22s on the Range
Always read how good CZ's are, but I've never seen one. Would like to shoot one. Great shooting with both of them.

Re: A Couple 22s on the Range
I had gone to my "go to" shop outside Richmond about ten years ago. It was on Route 1, which has since moved to larger quarters. I had shopped there since high school. I wanted a match type 22, or a bull barreled Ruger 10/22. Nope sold out, But my guy Travis suggested the CZ, bore sighted the scope and found the sling. You know the shop, right Forty? It had a green roof.
