Range Report: Bond no not James
Today is housecleaning day so I’m off to leave the house to the cleaning lady.
But to make sure I take my daily dose of shooting medicine I dug out the Bond in .22LR and put two rounds into a spinner from ten feet. Well I at least tried. Can you believe I missed a three inch spinner from ten feet! Forty I dug this out because of your post.
I think this is my least favorite firearm that I have.
Plink plank plunk my shooting sticks.

They called those belly guns way back when.
Not because you carried them tucked in your waistline against your belly,
But because to ensure they did the job,
it was best to press the muzzle against your target's belly.

You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.
I don't look back at the things I can no longer do, I just look forward to the things I still can.

Interesting guns. I've never owned one or even shot one, but, yeah, they call them belly guns for a reason, just like Marine says. Given my experience with small revolvers, I know it takes a lot of practice and some adjustment in hold and technique to get them to shoot up to their potential. I suspect it's the same thing with guns like that Bond.
My little 22 woods carry gun is my Ruger Bearcat. It's very accurate, though. Of course, single action revolvers are my favorites and that's what I shoot the most. That and the Bearcats have always been a little special to me.

Re: Range Report: Bond no not James
I carry a 2" snubby, and have practiced a lot. They can be shot well. Some folks can shoot them VERY well. A case in point?
I was standing on the 25 yard line working with one of my officers with his duty gun when I noticed my mentor farther down the line, coaching a group of recruits. I had discussed him in the academy, and often told the students that the more you practice the better you'll get. Finally one of them asked if this guy was a "Gun God?" "Yes," I told them. I pointed him out to the young officer. I said, "You remember me talking about my "Rabbi? There he stands, you want to meet him?" I whistled. Lou pointed to his watch and raised two fingers.
He walked over and after being introduced, the cocky young officer, being a smart a$$, asked Lou if he wanted see the Snubby he had just had a trigger job done on. The Sergeant held out his hand. The officer pulled the gun out of the range bag and handed it to him, cylinder open and muzzle pointed down at the ground. Thankfully. This Sergeant designed the department range and ran it for 13 years before returning to Patrol Operations.
He closed the cylinder, and pointed the gun downrange, empty, and tried the trigger job. "Could be better, but not bad." He held out his hand, and the young officer handed him five rounds of issued .38 ammo. "Which target is yours?"
"Um, 18."
After spending a long minute settling in against the barricade, Lou fired 5 slow shots downrange. He opened the cylinder, dumped the brass and handed the snubby to me. He winked, turned and walked away, back to the group he had been coaching. The rookie had been watching thru the spotting scope. "Gee Sarge," he called after the Sergeant with a touch of sarcasm, "I think you missed."
Lou looked over his shoulder and straight faced, without breaking stride, said, "The head, son, look at the head."
Five shots, touching, centered in the head.

Note: The Sergeant, long retired, still competes and wins in his 80s. The rookie went on to become a fine officer, working Narcotics in one of the worst areas in Virginia. He learned to tone down that cockiness.

I think the biggest problem with the Bond is you pull the trigger down and not back. Plus there is not much to push down on. That single of yours is a beauty.North Country Gal wrote: ↑Thu Oct 06, 2022 10:16 amInteresting guns. Thanks. Yeah, I enjoy the little Bearcats a lot. Nothing else quite like them, but, oh boy, they are crazy expensive now and good luck even getting one new.

Re: Range Report: Bond no not James
our Bond Roughneck is a solid handgun that functions as designed .... even at 10 - 20 yards, I'm happy when I come anywhere near the target .... I do better with very light loads .... with full power 357 or 44 loads my shooting distance shrinks to 5 yards or so .... I got word that Bond is getting ready to produce a model that will only fire regular rimfire 22's .... depending on price, I'd be very interested in purchasing one

Once you master the trigger they seem to shoot well enough for close range work. Gene glad I got you to dig them out the drawer!
Being able to swap out the barrels for other calibers is a good thing too! The 45/410 version seems to be able to take care of business.
