My newly arrived 2018 45-70 CC!

Sorry for the first photo, bummer.
Anyway, it looks nearly new,inside and outside.
The flaws are minimal, can't be seen unless pin pointed.
Thoughts:
Beautiful, hefty, action is super slick.
I don't see myself taking this rifle for a week to the palmetto scrub and scratching it all over. Is going to be a range rifle and possibly for shooting from a blind or something. ( I have others for dragging through the woods).
Maybe, just maybe a Skinner sight for kicks.
The barrel is super clean, shiny, rifling like new. Evidently very little use by the PO.

That is a beautiful rifle brother!!!!!
I have its twin, it has been a wonderful shooter and looks great too. Just a thought, the color case hardening does nothing for 'rust proofing' and I did get a touch of rust on mine, luckily I caught it in time and now keep anything that is color case hardened oiled and check them now and again. I don't have ammo recommendations for you as I hand load, but my rifle hasn't been fussy. Mine wears a 2x7 Leopold scope right now. I do have skinner sights on my Marlin 45-70 and I really like them.

In Florida. Sand, Palmetto, Long Leaf Pine, Oaks and a lot of water.

Living here in Western North Carolina, and being a Carolina Panther fan, coupled with the ( Palmetto state, SC ), made me wonder if you were closer.

Re: The Color Case in Henrys.
I heard that the method used by Henry is the Cyanide Bath. This finish has to be protected and I don't know if it even hardens the surface at all.
Real Bone charcoal color case hardening like you find in what Turnbull does costs an arm and a leg and is very difficult to do.
I'm not 100% sure of all of this.

I just read some about Color Case Hardening and everything I said before is inaccurate and some of it ever hearsay baloney.
In fact it is very interesting. If anybody wants to know there is a lot in the internet about it.
As far as Henry Firearms are concerned, it appears that probably is the chemical way and not using bone, still, it is the standard method used in the past by many manufacturers.
