Winter Clothes

I have a pair of combination thin fingered gloves with a mitten over protector. It the best of both worlds.

Gene I also left lots of clothes in Washington, I am prepared and bought some long sleeve t shirts for the coming South Carolina winter

No big loss for me as a lot of my clothes were old to begin with. Add that to the fact that even on the top of Mt. Rainier it doesn’t get -40F so my clothes wouldn’t have been much good here.

This makes me wonder why someone would pick a place to live that gets to -40? I’m sure it’s lovely 3 seasons, but there is a long winter there. Are you heading south in the RV?

Our new place is 2 hours from Spokane, so we will get “some” winter, but nothing like Wisconsin I hope!

20 years in Chicago scared me away from that region...brutal winters!

The Midwest has some very beautiful Spring, Summer, and Fall seasons, but we pay for it in the Winter.
Carhart is my favorite brand for cold weather gear, although it's expensive. I also wear felt lined boots in the
really cold weather. I have some mittens for the really bad cold, but my remedy for that is to stay inside.
Being retired, I can do that. Another remedy is we fire up the old Winnie and head south for a few weeks.

We have a really nice insulated garage that is large enough for two cars and my boat. I don't normally heat
it, but I can with propane heaters. Enough heat bleeds from the house that it rarely goes below freezing.

I have my old 1983 Bronco that is a dedicated snow plow. I plow with the heater on, radio playing, and a cup
of coffee on the console. Not too bad.

I have found that it's best to embrace Winter. Get out and work in it. Go snowmobiling, skiing, ect. If you do
you climatize to it and that makes it a lot easier to get through.

PS, one morning here a few years back my electronic thermometer read -46 below.

I have a plow for my little tractor and truck. I’ve lived and worked in ski towns the majority of my life so I have done my share of “embracing”. I’m still waiting on concrete to get poured for my new shop, so I’m not counting on having it done before it gets cold. I do have a wood stove for it, just no walls to keep the heat in;)

If budget allows after building all the new stuff, there will be some time spent in California this winter.

Socks.... what is it with socks nowdays? Within 3 months I get holes in the bottom of the heel and these supposed to be the extra thick Dickies!
Got to buy some new ones this week.

I buy the best merino wools socks I can find and buy 20 pair all alike. They will last from 3 to 5 years before I loose so many I only have a dozen pair left.

I do just about the same thing with the socks. I wear the merinos in the summer and winter. They do have a habit of walking away by themselves. I love my Filson hat and would like a Kromer, but "need" other things first.

I saved a few of my XL wool items when I lost weight. They are a LOT roomier now but still function well.
I saved two Bianchi thick pants belts that I thought I never would put on again, but they last forever and were pretty close to new. I'm happy to say I'm wearing one of them now as it was cool today and I put on a pair of jeans for a change.

I got tired of living in socialism. Here people take care of each other and don’t depend on the government. Besides I like the cold, I grew up in Montana and -40F was a common winter day. Being retired helps and having the finances to really enjoy it makes it even better.

This summer I haven’t done much shooting because I spent a lot of time getting ready for winter. This winter I plan on doing a lot of shooting.

I just bought almost a closet full of winter clothes and am still shopping. Most of the clothes are merino wool although some are shetland or angora. What isn’t wool is down and then some synthetics.

I bought this hat for cold weather wear. Very well made and it is good quality sheepskin. Very warm especially with the ear flaps down.
