Burritomania!

Post by Kissmybrass » Sun Sep 11, 2022 11:55 am

Made 75 refried bean and cheese burritos for those in need in downtown Seattle.
Brought a lot of water along too.
Ringo came along with me and put a lot of smiles on a lot of faces :-)

What’s the downtown area and under the freeways look like?

I was through there a few months back. It’s worse than I’ve ever seen under the freeway! Downtown Portland east of the 5 is insane! Tents on every sidewalk. Like to the point that you can’t walk anywhere. Never seen anything like it.

Nice job on the burritos!

I'd say better but areas like Green Lake and The International District got run down.
Still a lot of work to be done. Pioneer Square is still sketchy too. Kinda dangerous.

From what I hear, all of the West Coast major cities are struggling with drugs and homelessness :-( Covid really ramped up the problem.

It’s been bad for almost ten years. Few places to go where you don’t see needles on the ground or people peeing. It’s not illegal to do drugs and if you cannot afford them they are given to you free.

When I left it had spread to the suburbs.

Yeah they have what they call "Open drug markets" in parks and designated areas in Seattle. Last summer was horrible, I literally had to walk over the exact spot a guy was shot to death the day before to get to my bus exchange. People were shooting up in the middle of the day and laying all over the place. Mayor recommended we change our routes. What xxxx, I thought. Boarded up stores, trash everywhere. Horrible.

I tip my hat to you sir. That's a very nice thing to do. I'm sure (I hope) that they were appreciated by those you helped.
It's too bad to hear about the area conditions.
