A little band adjustment after almost 47 years.....

Yep my wedding band was getting too tight so came up with this idea to resize it a bit. Just put it in my hyd. press and with a bit of pressure on both sides fits perfect now. Just took a nut with some balls to do it!

I quit wearing mine several decades ago. Between having to take it off everytime I climbed on an aircraft, went to work, or worked on the car at home, I decided it wasn't worth the chance of losing it. SWMBO was fine with that. Not that she had anything to worry about.

A slight adjustment is made with a tapered tool and a hide mallet turning the ring so you don't taper the band. Sometimes the band is brittle after years of being worn but can usually be increased a size without a problem. If it is too brittle and cracks it can be repaired and then it needs to be annealed.

No I did it at shop temp. and it worked well.

I have three. A plain gold band, a fancy gold band, and I received my stepfather's wedding band when he passed.

Funny thing, I told the funeral director to bury him with his Mason's Ring on his finger, but I would like to have his wedding band just before they closed the casket. I was standing at the head of the casket when they began closing the lid and noted his wedding band on his hand as they folded the blankets up to his chest just prior to closing the lid. oh well. The director came over and took both my hands in his afterwards, said he hoped the service went well, and walked away. He had slipped me the ring. Slick. Makes you think.

I rarely wear any of them for the same reasons. On aircraft work. Patrol work. Working in the shop. Tina doesn't wear hers either working around the livestock and farm machinery.

One of a basketball player who had been wearing a ring while doing a dunk, stripped all the skin off his finger when the ring got caught on the rim. Also saw photos of why you should be very careful with long hair around rotating machinery.

I got married at age 38 and bought my wife a ring. I told her that it would be a waste for me to have one as being a carpenter I would almost never wear it and if she didn't trust me, she had the wrong guy. When I became a Master Mason an older brother Mason gave me a Masonic ring. I almost never wear it unless I am traveling. I just don't like things on my fingers. I always rolled up my sleeves when using power tools and machinery.After 50 years in the trade, I still have all ten.

I vividly remember the photo that was posted in the Squadron for many years. It was the picture of a hand with on of the fingers laying next to the hand. The plain band wedding ring was still on the finger. Seems one of the cargo loading crew didn't think it was necessary to remove jewelry prior to loading and aircraft. Got the ring caught on the cargo net of a heavy pallet. He stopped and the pallet, with his finger, didn't.

If that picture wouldn't keep you from wearing jewelry on the flight line, nothing would.
