Our Morning Coffee and Weather

Took my oldest out to the range today. He shot my Marlin .44 mag and I took out the Marlin 783 .22 WMR. We had a great time. Right now it's 94° and humid. Just had some cereal and coffee this morning for breakfast.

Another wicked hot day ahead. Got my hay hauled yesterday like I wanted. Another day( morning) at it today ..... i guess i will have to do like they told the old Indian in that movie " the outlaw Jose wales"... " endeavor to persevere "

Woke up to 54 with some ugly looking thunderheads around. Nothing cooking overhead but it looks like there may be some boomers in the distance. Today we should se 82 with improving skies. Next week still looks to be very hot for our trip to the Upper Columbia.

Picked up a mount for my AR so today I’ll mount that Leupold Mark AR 3-9x40 on it. Took a 3x red dot off and I will appreciate the increased magnification this scope offers. Then mow the lawn I guess.

Sunny and warm, temps in the 80's. Going shooting tomorrow with another black powder buddy. Calgary Stampede kicks off tomorrow, wife has a painting in the western art showcase, and we have tickets for the rodeo next week too. Been playing with the new grandson this week, 2 months old already. His favorite thing to do is ride my knee like a horse, gets him smiling every time....

Another hot hot day . Last day hauling in hay ( assuming nothing breaks,bends,busts, or quits on me) I will be pleased to have that nasty hot core done! The local TV station said last night that our region of the state has been moved from the moderate drought category up to the severe drought category. That's not encouraging news.

Morning, not good woodswalker.
Pretty dry here also, 79° this AM and headed towards 100.
On the way home yesterday afternoon I saw 102 on two thermometers and another showed 104, and that was just after 5 PM.
Taking the day off, got one job to measure up, and collect a check on the one we finished yesterday.

I have some shop work I can do.
Tonight the local celebration has a cruise night where over 400 old vehicles parade
the area. They are scheduled to come right past our service road and usually the
neighbors and us take lawn chairs and a drink and gather to watch. Depending on
the weather I hope we do this again.

51 pleasant degrees with all the windows open. Heading to the lower 80’s with sunshine. Probably going to start preps for next weeks trip to the lake. Already prepped for two trips that we canceled so most of the work is done.

Right now it's 88°. It's going to get hotter for sure. I just had cereal and coffee for breakfast. The oldest son and his wife left yesterday to go back to Omaha. It was nice having them down.

Sunny today: currently 73; expected high of 83. Driving to Sioux Falls to pickup son & family from Denmark and then to another son’s home for the weekend. We’ll bring them back to our house and they are planning to stay for 3 weeks. Wife and I will travel to Rapid City for a good friend’s funeral. A lot of mileage and travel time. Everybody have a great day

Currently 86° and headed to 101° today according to the weather. Cooked sausage, eggs, toast and coffee for breakfast. Going to get the laundry started as Robyn has been working eight hour shifts at the library to make up hours she took off while the kids were here. I'll get some work done but not much.

It's supposed to be a beautiful day. Low humidity and nice temps in the 80s.
I will do some work on the flower gardens in front of the house this morning and then lunch.
This afternoon I will do something that I have avoided for years and participate in a parade
in town for the VFW.

First of all the parade route is 1.5 miles and although I walk pretty good
for a block or so, I cannot go any further without stopping to let the pain go away. I had an injury
in VN that slows me down you see.

Secondly I do not enjoy being on display. Oh, I can give a speech or teach a lesson just fine, but I
do not like just being the center of attention for no reason. I think that has a bit to do with PTSD.

So what got me into this is there are not a lot of our younger members who are stepping up to show
the flag so to speak, and the older members are gradually dwindling away. The younger members
want to stand on the sidelines with their wives and children, watching. I understand.

Well, they found out I held a military and govt drivers license for everything from a Jeep to a Five
Ton Wrecker, and they said, "Hey, perfect, you can drive the Jeep". OK, I guess, hard to refuse.

So at 5 this afternoon we will lead off the parade, (which is very large), with the flags and honor
guard, followed by me driving the Jeep pulling a trailer with chairs and other vets who also cannot
make the walk.

I still feel uncomfortable about it, but I will do it. The thing is that most of the VFW members served
off shore or were in Gulf 1 or 2 and simply don't understand what some of us that were in country in
VN feel. My battalion received the Presidential Unit Citation for the period I was in it, and we saw some
pretty nasty stuff.

Picked up Danish son & family spent the night at middle son’s home after a stop at Cabela’s and a stop in Huron so son can connect with a classmate and friend, we’ll be headed home.

60º and dry last night so I could open up the house and shut off the air conditioner. High around 80º so I can finish up the mowing (grass is brown but the weeds are tall) and get started on some shelves behind the reloading bench. Everyone have a great Sunday.
