And so the 5th begins.....
A hot, dry one here. I'm doing stuff this morning, and hiding in the shade this afternoon. An old man's plan I've become quite fond of.

I’m almost done excavating the driveway to make a turnaround at the top. It’s still a couple inches high in the center.

As you can see it rained last night and it’s still foggy.

I will be adding four inches of crushed gravel so I don’t get stuck in the mud next spring.

Fog 72°F 22°C
Humidity 100%
Wind Speed Calm
Barometer 29.87 in
Folgers and Peach Cobbler. :D
My favorite desert and Carol made me a big batch.
Last night we went into town and I took part in the VFW doing the ceremony opening
the fireworks for the fourth. We presented flags and led the crowd in the Pledge and then
a lady sang the National Anthem. We didn't get home until 10:30, and that's late for us.
Had a couple of martinis and then bed. Slept late this AM.

Looks good Gene. There running out of water in the southwest and you have way to much BRM. To bad those storms aren’t way south of there. 95 here today was a noisy night and the dogs were not liking it. Signs all over of big fines for illegal fireworks but I didnt see one cop in my neighborhood and you could sit on my front porch and see all the illegal fireworks you wanted.

A cool 46 this morning but we’re looking at a high of 76. It’s a beautiful sunny morning and after yesterday’s good rain everything is wet and shiny. Today would be a good day for me to mow the treed areas after yesterday’s soaking. Have a few other tasks to do first so we’ll see. Today is the start of several nice days with sunshine and temps into the 80’s. Next week we’re heading up to the upper Columbia River for some camping and fishing. The extended forecast is for this nice weather to continue into next week.

Started out @ 77* this AM, it is 85 now. We are starting very bad trend of +100* with Heat indices in the 110s. There is no relief for the next 10 days. Stay cool everyone.

I'm sure the roof will be closed! Cooked bacon, eggs, toast and coffee this morning for breakfast. Hope everyone stays safe this holiday weekend.

Would that be the Astrodome?
No, they play in Minute Maid Park....have for a few years. They manage to win with a walk off home run. They played the Royals and were behind 6-2 and rallied in the bottom of the eighth to tie. It was a very exciting game. They took us out to breakfast this morning. Currently it's 88° and mostly sunny. There's only a 20% chance of rain.

I'm no expert at driveway construction but you might consider putting down a couple of inches of larger rock and then a couple of inches of gravel. I did a new section of my drive with some larger stone and it seems to not sink into the dirt as much as gravel. I had put down a couple of inches of 5/8" gravel there earlier and it seemed to mostly disappear over just a couple of years. I still need to get some 5/8" gravel to cover this area.

Yup, I had a parking area that was always soft. I put down a couple of loads of what they called "Bric Brac", which was about two to three inch crushed rock. Then over that I put down 3/4 inch minus which means rock crushed to 3/4 inch along with the fine powder that results. It's now a very stable area to park anything.

Of to haul round bales at daylight. I have an air conditioned tractor available at each end of the haul to load and unload ( the old truck pulling the trailer is not air conditioned) but I think I can haul till noon and be ok even though the next three days have excessive heat warnings out.
.if I can make five loads a day I can be done... if not I guess I will be having saturday...Saturday... will see what happens...🤪

Yes indeed. The country church just up the road did that and it looks great. I'd like
to do that but it would take over a dozen loads to do our drive.

57 with heavy clouds and on and off rain. Had a big boom of thunder at about 3:00 am that woke us up. Only the one but man it was loud. Followed by a nice rain. So, I plan on continuing mowing my treed areas since I had to quit early yesterday to meet a guy to sell my old Honda 2K generator. Just upgraded to a 4K so we can run the A/C in the trailer. Good timing because the weather guy just told us that next week when we will be at the Upper Columbia with no power available it is forecast to reach the upper 90’s. Yuk.
