Ticks and more ticks
Ticks and more ticks
Few days ago Buster had a big blood sucking Vermon behind his ear, I got it out with tweezers and no signs of illness. Today Gizmo had one on his neck.this afternoon Sandy said she felt something on her back. They were the little nymph ticks. I told her to relax cause I'd done lots of tick checks in the Army, she was a real trooper.. Getting some deep woods OFF spray repellent

Re: Ticks and more ticks
I hate ticks. It's been quite a few years since we've a severe tick problem. Have had a few years where they were so bad on our irrigation trail that you could stop and count a dozen within just several feet sitting on a blade of grass just waiting to latch onto you as you walked past. I would keep the trail well weed-eated so it wasn't too bad, still had to do a through tick check when you got back from walking the trail. Have only seen one so far this year, he went into the creek.
Don't know what causes the population explosions, just glad it doesn't happen too often.

Re: Ticks and more ticks
Thanks guys. I hate even reading the word. Now I feel them crawling on me.

Re: Ticks and more ticks
I’ve heard since growing up that fleas and ticks run in 7 year cycles. About every 7 years you’ll have a year they will be real bad.
Re: Ticks and more ticks
We’ve had good success with Frontline, it too kills the tick instead of repelling them. This year on the advice of our vet we’re using a new product called Bravecto. It’s an oral three month dose and unlike Frontline there is no oily mess on the pup’s fur. We live in a real brushy area which he loves to run in and when he does I tell him he’s just a tick magnet.
Re: Ticks and more ticks
I spray my 27 evergreen trees every year for spruce bore, with Malathion, I guess that helps control the ticks on my property.

Re: Ticks and more ticks
Tina uses advantix2. It kills ticks and fleas, and with 21 acres and cows to run around it works great. She orders it direct from petmeds a year at a time, @ $112. She doesn't get the side effects she got with the vets prescribed flea and tick med.
IE: Fiona's beard turned red, eyes turned wheepy red around her mouth and nose, lethargic for twenty four to forty eight hours after administration. AND it was $240 a year Vs. $112.

Re: Ticks and more ticks
Ticks around my range property every year starting in mid April. I spray my work boots socks and pants with Sawyers permetherin spray. Also wear the
thin leggings under my pants and socks as a last barrier. However I still believe the things fall out the trees since I will sometimes pick one crawling on my neck even if I have been just walking around in the short cut grass near trees. Hate those things!
We I return home all clothes come off and got thru the dryer on high heat to kill any that might be on there.

wicked little swine they be...
Re: Ticks and more ticks
Be very careful with ticks. My wife has had her life ruined by Lyme Disease and several Md's have been ruined for trying to aggressively treat it.

Tina sprays the cows with Ivamectrin, available at Tractor Supply, or any farm and feed store. She mixes it up in one of the hand held pump sprayers and once she is done with the livestock, she'll spray the outside of our shops, around the two porches, the working areas of the barns, and once I complete it, my range and range house. She will also use it on mud dabber nests, and other pests. That little sprayer isn't used for anything else. It seems to help a lot.

Re: Ticks and more ticks
I have lived through several bad cycles of plague-like infestations of ticks. We have the dog tick and Lone Star ticks. My first encounter with ticks was when I was about 6 yrs old. It was so bad, the chain link fence looked like it was moving. Mom lost her prize winning cocker spaniel. Between the ticks the sheep dip Dad dunked the dog almost daily, that poor dog didn't stand a chance being aged 17 years old. When ticks go through that cycle, there is just Hell to pay.
