Until then, top it to stop the weeds from seeding out... and just let the cows graze year round and give them a little hay when there was snow cover if they needed it. As light as most of the snow it here most winters, they can usually still find grass among the tree cover.

But, for the health of the future, we need to spray. Eventually we were going to need the sprayer anyway, and we could choose a broadcast sprayer, or... a boom sprayer. THIS is a 65 gallon Fimco boom sprayer. Tina sprayed a mixture of weed killer and two other chemicals but you can also use it to spray liquid fertilizer or whatever. That means we can use it around the house too. What was a shocker was the cost of the chemicals.
Still cheaper than paying to have it done.

It took two full 65 gallon tanks to cover the pastures. We'll have to spray once a year every year for three years to kill off some of the weeds, and top off the weeds every time they start to bud. Work work work.
But, the pasture sure is pretty. 
We are already seeing results .
