Savage .22/410
Savage .22/410
I installed a peep sight on my Savage Model 42 earlier this week. Started sighting it in. Hope to shoot it more in next couple days.
Re: Savage .22/410
Sorry. Thought I sent a picture of the target with last post.
Re: Savage .22/410
Nice, always wanted one of those. Guy has a deluxe on our local trader page for sale but I just bought a Henry 410 so I’m forcing myself to use self control. I don’t need two 410’s and I don’t want to sell the Henry.
Is the 42 the new style with the composite stock? I sure like the look of them so I hope you can get a picture posted.

Re: Savage .22/410
It is the one with composite stock. Pretty much all composite. It’s mostly my everyday carry during the summer. I keep it with me on the utv and in the shop. The 410 comes in handy. There’s a spring with a cane patch in the bottom behind my house and there’s plenty of rattlesnakes that like my back yard and have to be relocated.
Re: Savage .22/410
Here’s the results after installing the peep sight. I shot propped on side of my utv. Hope to fine tune it in next couple days. Maybe this afternoon.

Nothing to Bragg about for sure, but got the peep sight close. The rest is up to me. The 410 is what keeps me from liking this gun more. Hopefully you can zoom in on picture and see why. It’s not choked and pattern spreads fast. This picture is only 15 yds. It’s good during summer for snakes and such, but not for squirrel hunting.

Re: Savage .22/410
Interesting, I didn’t know these weren’t choked. I always thought this would make a great grouse gun with the choice of 22 or 410. How bout a picture of your firearm?graywolf wrote: ↑Wed Jun 08, 2022 9:38 pmNothing to Bragg about for sure, but got the peep sight close. The rest is up to me. Re: Savage .22/410
Why don't you talk to a good gunsmith about putting some choke in that 410? I believe that there is a procedure known as a jug choke that can be used. Maybe not as good as a factory full choke but a lot tighter than an open cylinder.
Re: Savage .22/410
I got to do something. Here’s the picture I posted above shooting it at 15 yds. and another picture of the Rossi single shot with mod choke at 20 yds. Also took quick pic of gun.

Re: Savage .22/410
That's better. May be dumb question. If a Judge can fire 410 and 45 colt, can the rifle?
Remember, it's not how many guns you have. It's how many bullets you have.
Re: Savage .22/410
Thanks for posting the firearm pic. Those 42’s are a good looking unit. I like the black with the red highlights. Looks very functional and for me with a better choke system that would be a “grouse getter”.

Re: Savage .22/410
Hatch, I really like it.I would like it a lot more if the 410 held a better pattern. I wanted it to use the 410 on early season squirrels, and the .22 later when leaves fall. I think I'm going to call a couple gunshops tomorrow and ask what can be done. In the summer time, its great to have with me for snakes and such. Under 15 yds, its not bad.
