I forgot to mention, my best 5 shot group at 50 yards was 1 5/8 inches with those Magtechs. They are standard 240 grainers with a sjsp designation (semi jacketed?) So I dont think Id be afraid to use those deer hunting this fall. I got them from SG Ammo in Oklahoma. Have never ordered ammo through the mail before, but they were at my door in MN in less than a week.
Site seems to be OK. Load issue should be resolved now.
First shots
First shots
FINALY was able to shoot my new BBS .44 carbine I purchased weeks ago. What a sweet little shooter
I used some Magtech jsp's and Hornady hollow points. Both functioned flawlessly, and the Magtech ammo was dead on point of aim at 50 yds without even adjusting the sights. Im considering a skinner or williams peep sight however, after having good luck with a peep on my . 50 cal muzzleloader. Anyway, just a really positive first "range" session. Its my new favorite rifle and a joy to shoot.

Re: First shots
great to hear .... our Henry 44 mag is a fine shooter that's fun to fire .... we've taken black bear, boar and white tail deer with our 44 mags, I have no doubt that you will find it to a fine hunter .... looking forward to your ongoing use reports

Re: First shots
I really enjoy venison, but I've never had bear. I can say, however, that boat is amazing after hours floating in a marinade, preferably salt brine. I've had several of them in the past. Enjoyed them all.
Oh! You meant Boar. Totally different.

Re: First shots
I've had very good accuracy, too, with Mag-tech 357s and 44s in various guns. Never tried it for hunting, but it's been a go-to ammo for factory practice ammo.

Re: First shots
Mag-Tech ammo in .45 auto is accurate. Like it a lot. I believe I still have some factory ammo of it. Ohh whee, it has been a while since I've shot factory thru my SA 1911-A1.

Thank you. My eyes are in pretty good shape yet and Ive never worn glasses, but that group suprised even me. Now ifn I could do that regularly, I would just leave well enough alone

Re: First shots
Tom, Henry replaced my 44 barrel a couple years ago now, and unless they test fired it before returning.
It hasn't even seen a factory round.

Re: First shots
Sorry got distracted
Sounds like some fine shooting Sir.
I have a BBS in 41 mag. and the best factory ammo I shot in it, which has been little was Cor bon.
Followed closely by Underwood.
I have never tried any Magtech, but
if NCG, and Tom like it, then I'd say it some pretty good stuff.

Re: First shots
Its not made here, I think Brazil, but so was my Taurus .357 revolver (which has been a good firearm). Ive allways prefered Winchester ammunition but its scarce right now. People seem to like Mag tech, and from what Ive seen its good enough for me. In a revolver I no longer have, I remember shooting some Underwood that I think was fairly hot as far as factory ammo goes, because it had some hellacious recoil.Vaquero wrote: βTue May 03, 2022 9:32 pmSorry got distracted![]()

Re: First shots
Well the main reason for not knowing the manufacturer is I load all my own ammo, every single cf cal.Chris74 wrote: βTue May 03, 2022 10:11 pmIts not made here, I think Brazil, but so was my Taurus .357 revolver (which has been a good firearm). The only factory ammo I buy is either 22 lr, and mag. and shotgun shells.
I shot neither from my BH, only the BBS, and just to get and idea of how the Henry rifle liked a heavier bullet while I was experimenting with a 270gr mold.
I will tell ya though with the 250gr corbon's and a 1x4 vortex scope the BBS made one ragged hole at 50 yds., I was totally impressed.
I haven't found that accuracy just yet with this bullet but I'm "kinda" close.

Re: First shots
Randy, My Henry .45 Colt has never seen factory rounds either. Been handloading for it before I bought it. Lead only, no jacketed anything.
Re: First shots
5 shots, 1 5/8β, 50 yards, open sights.
Bravo!
