My Frontier .50 cal flintlock named "Chinook" because of all the wind shooting I do around here. Rain on & off all day.
50 grains Schutzen 3fg
.480 patched ball
50 yards off hand, getting more comfortable with the whole flintlock thing....much more relaxed and don't sweat the small stuff, swabbing between shots if I need to, etc. I find shooting this rifle it's very easy to tune out the rest of the world.

Tuning out everything else but the shot is the gospel of good shooting for sure. Bet you could hold your own with the best of them from the flintlock era.

First one in the middle. Next ones further out. Last two right above the middle.
Breezy.

I was thinking the same thing. The only thing better than Keith’s shooting is his photography.

Is that smoke in front of that target pic? Were you standing right in front of it when you were shooting?
I’m soooo kidding. That is excellent shooting. You set a high bar when you first started shooting that flintlock. It just keeps getting higher. Impressive.

Haha, don’t worry I’ve shot some real crappers too, still do. I have a bad habit of pulling left that I have to work on all the time. But I am shooting off hand for everything now. Just have to keep at it.

Right now I am making a custom brass ramrod for this rifle. Didn’t start out a custom one, but it arrived in the mail bent and the 3/8 diameter was too tight for the thimbles under the barrel. So after much filing and sanding it is now a custom brass rod.
Not done yet, needs to be smoothed out and I’ll put a nice patina on it.

My 7 lb. rifle becomes an 8 lb. rifle. Curious to see how this affects my off hand shooting. It will absorb some recoil, and maybe help me hold on target during and after the shot. Better eats me spinach.

I always used brass rods as range rods, anyway. You could certainly shoot then gun without the ramrod installed. Don't think the nit of extra weight will cause you any problems, though.
