Interesting Outing With New CZ

I took my new CZ 452 to the range today, and it was a very interesting experience.

First impressions: 1. More accurate than I am 2. Pretty nice stock trigger

Another observation: I'm still not a scope guy.

The most interesting thing today involved the lighting and the black Shoot-N-C targets I was using. There is, of course, little or no recoil with a .22, so I could not only immediately see my hits through the scope, but I could also see the bullets as they flew to the target. That was pretty cool.

I can see now that shooting a good quality bolt action .22 rifle could become very habit forming.

Glad you got the new jewel out for some therapy. I don't have a CZ yet. But plan to rectify that when I retire and have more time to spend shooting. I have heard so much good from people I trust who own them. If scopes aren't your cup of tea you might want to look for a Trainer model. They are designed specifically for using the open sights.

The LGS I had do the transfer on the CZ has a very similar rifle there on consignment. A Brno Model 2, made in the 80's, and has iron sights on it. The consignor wants a bit too much for it, so it's been there for awhile. If it sticks around a little while longer, I may have to make an offer for it.

Good luck with your CZ 452. They are usually great shooters and are well worth the price you pay. They will spoil you shooting from the bench you find the ammo they like. I always tell people looking to buy a 22 that on a scale of 1-10 a good bolt rifle from the bench will be a fun factor of 9+ and just off hand plinking at cans or clay target pieces is about a 5. The lever 22's are the opposite of the bolt guns for me and are the most fun off hand plinking away at clay target pieces or shot shell hulls especially with peep sights. Not as much fun from the bench for me. For shooting for accuracy I personally do not shoot as well with a shoot and see target. I can always shoot smaller groups with a white target with a black circle with a white center. I make a black circle using the hole in the center of a old CD. I guess every one has their preference on targets they like but the old targets work best for me. Enjoy your CZ 452 and the more you shoot it the more you will want to chase the tiny groups some of these CZ's will shoot.

I did a contest between a Henry and a CZ. Both were rimfires. The CZ far outshot the Henry from the bench. It wasn't even close. But when I shot them both timed offhand the Henry came to the top. It was not only faster but more accurate.

I have a buddy at the range who is an astonishly good shooter. He has tried my H001 and has found that it can be extremely accurate.
