Heres a tractor

We stopped by some friends house in Friona,Tx. We met them and I went shooting with him several times in Port A. He asked us to stop by on the way home so we did and stayed a day. Hes a custom cutter for a dairy in north Texas. The dairy is huge with more cows than I have seen in one spot. I think he said 12000. They milk them twice a day. So he took us to the tractor shed and showed us one of his brand new tractors. Its huge and big. Its also took a big check to pay for it. Over 800K for this one. Man I would of been nervous as hell signing the papers for this one. It uses 70 gallons an hour. Holy cow thats a lot of fuel. While I was there I also got to shoot his 17 Winchester super mag. Interesting round 3000 fps 20 caliber bullet rimfire. Took out a couple of barn pigeons with it. He also has about 5 Henrys. There all Golden Boys and Silver Boys. Has one or two in 17hmr

Yep that's a big one! Down at my range property there is a lot of farming and I got behind this one huge tractor that was as wide as the road with no way to get around the thing and you could almost drive a car under it. What I was concerned about was somebody coming the other way around a curve at speed and seeing that at the last moment with no place to go. That was scary! The guy finally took a turn the other way at a road crossing. He was going from one field to another I guess but a lot of large dump trucks come flying down that road.

The big farmers around here would call that a yard tractor. Theirs's are all tracked and as wide as the road when they amble down them. One friends of mine owns 12 farms and runs them all himself with the help of one hired man. That's why the big equipment.
His computer operated planter alone is over $20,000.00.

I do think he's a bit greedy.

Yup. That big equipment is amazing. Spring is here and these things are everywhere. Know several of the locals that simply drool over the newest and bestest. We get a magazine detailing all the latest in the store. I call it tractor porn.

Cant use the track tractors for what he does as you cant do the rows with it without destroying to much crop. Dont know about greed here but I do know Dan would give you the shirt off his back and help you out in a heartbeat. Hes just one heck of a nice guy.

one of my wife's nieces and her husband farm thousands of acres in South Dakota .... I never cease to be somewhat amazed at the size and quality of his equipment

Now you get over there in the flat lands by the muddy Mississippi, there's some Bad Boys down there.

You might want to check that fuel usage.. Maybe 70 liters an hour. Over a gallon per minute doesn't sound right.

Ok I miss spoke on fuel usage for that tractor. I didnt hear when he mention 2 tractors and his chopper. Togther they all use 70 gallons per hour. Chopper uses 37 by itself with its huge engine which is about 900hp. The tractor uses about 18 per hour.

My 1947 Ford 8N has set in the barn for months all chained up and ready to move snow. Used it once this year,
so it's been setting for at least 2 months now without running. I went out yesterday afternoon and it started
right up.
I removed the tire chains and as soon as the drive dries up I will blade it. I have a blade and a snow bucket on it.
Pretty good for a 75 year old tractor. It runs great but I need to replace the manifold gasket. I have them, just
haven't gotten around to it yet.
I also have a 1952 Jubilee that I use as a yard tractor to move my boat and such around.

Sure, I'd like a new one, but I'm old and the tractors and I get along.

Cost doesn't matter if it makes you a profit. And there are tax write offs for capital equipment.
