Ruger All Weather .223

Post by Shakey Jake » Mon Apr 04, 2022 10:37 am

Took it to the range yesterday morning to relieve stress from the week. Didn't do too bad but had a couple of fliers. Burris 3X9 scope at 100 yards.

Very nice. I have a new Ruger Ranch Rifle in 223 I need to sight in. I plan to start on the range this month. Supposed to rain all this week though.

I just picked up a ruger american ranch 5.56 bolt action that I'll have to make time for also.

Actually, I did buy my Ruger Ranch in 556, so I had the option to shoot both calibers. My new Rifle is the one that will use the AR mags. I have a few around here somewhere. :? Can't wait to give 'er a try.

It has been raining HARD off and on for two days and I think they are calling for hard rain for a couple more days. BUT, I'm smiling. :P WE want the rain. The pastures need the rain, the cows love the grass and the ponds all around us for miles are nearly dry. We could use about six to eight feet back in ours. 8-)

I'll wait a couple weeks to start on the range in exchange for a significant increase in the water table.

I bought a 556 Ranch about this time last year. I mounted a Vortex Crossfire scope on it. Consistent 1" or less groups at 100 yrs. I had some feed problems early on, but doing fine now.

Mine is a bolt action with stainless barrel. It likes the Norma TAC better than my handloads. I reloaded using Norma 201 powder but I'm going to try some Accurate 2200 for my next handloads.

Pretty rifle. I’m a fan of Burris scopes as well. Very crisp. Always wondered how well the Ruger Americans shot - so thanks for the range report!

I have the cousin in a Ruger Scout 5.56. Very accurate with my hand loads using the Sierra 69 grain matchking and Varget. So fun to shoot that it can put you in the poor house after a day’s shooting.

I have lots of 223 brass and powder. Fair amount of small rifle primers. Been looking at the Ruger American predator in 223 with the Vortex scope.

I reload with the same bullet...69 gr Sierra MK. I haven't been able to get Varget when I needed powder to load. Maybe there will be some available after I use up the Norma and IMR.

I looked at the predator as well. I like the longer barrel compared to the American ranch. Not being able to shoot 5.56 was the deal breaker for me.

Nice shooting Jake! Guess you were not too shakey.
