I had a teacher take a sling shot away from me in the third grade. I had one as an adult a few years ago. We used rocks as kids and I used ball bearings as an adult. Not cheap ammo.

I never had one as a kid and no one I knew did either. I have two now and the broad side of my barn is pretty safe.

We made bows, spears and slingshots. Then, we got BB guns and played cowboys and Indians. But, no one wanted to be an Indian. However, I did almost got my eye shot, during a shoot out. We did have one brave soul though, who participated in an experiment. The test was to see if a BB gun pumped x 3 would penetrate tennis shoes. It did, and he ran away screaming. I don't recall playing with him any longer.

I've always had a " Wrist Rocket " handy. I once got real lucky I guess and took a squirrel off a tree branch at about 15 yards.
