Henry Big Boy Classic .357 Sorting rear stock

Has anyone cut down and shortened the rear stock on a Henry Big Boy from the original 14" ?

Is there someone out there that does work like this. Just getting a used Henry Big Boy Classic and cut all my rifles down to a 12.5" LOP, think I will need help with the brass butt plate and curve.

Give Henry a call. I believe the H006 [LOP 14"] stocks may be interchangeable with the H004 [LOP 13"]stocks. If they aren't, look for an LGS that works with high-end shotguns, to do the cutting . . .

I sure wish they made a youth length stock. Wish the youth Golden Boy stock would work. I will call Henry and ask them. I am a shorter individual of only 5' 5" in height so 14" LOP is like holding an 8' 2x4 on my shoulder. Actually thinking of using a Plastic shotgun or Marlin style buttplate and reshaping the butt stock.

I usually prefer the straight cut buttstock found on shotguns over the crescent-shaped stocks found on the H006. Especially on heavy recoiling calibers. Whether you are shooting a 22 Short or a 458 Win. Mag. the stock should fit you . . .

I just emailed Henry, see what they say. I have located a curved brass buttplate that would look really nice if I can cut the curve properly. It's just a two screw from the back of the plate no upper pat for the top of the stock. Also found several plastic buttplate. Waiting to hear from Henry now.

I have the same issue, the wife and daughter would enjoy plinking with me more if it was more comfortable. I’m on the fence about getting a youth 22 but is the stock shorter? If it’s front weight why not a carbine length? The octagon barrels are heavier but the brass looks so nice. Decisions decisions.

The stock on a youth 22 is much better. I use to have a Golden Boy and Anthony sent me a youth stock free of charge. Made shooting that rifle great. I believe the youth is 13 " LOP I believe.

Yes, the Youth leverguns have a 13" LOP.

Well heard from Henry today. They suggested to go to a Gunsmith and have them shorten the LOP. So I ordered a Brass regular Buttplate, not the carbine style that goes over the top end of the buttstock. This one is like the plastic ones except it has a curve that I am going to straighten it out before putting it on.

Well I got the LOP shortened to 12.25" with a brass buttplate I order from Numrich gun parts. I really like the looks and feel. Also refinished the front and rear stock with a wax only finish. I like the feel of the warm wood and I can quickly sand out and refinish any nicks or scratches from now on.

I have a Large Loop coming and a saddle ring for it. Also a sling swivel because I like a sling on all my levers. More pictures to come.

With the shorter LOP, has the balance of the rifle changed? If so, where is the balance point now? Just curious.
I like what you have done, especially the brass butt plate.

I really have not payed any attention to the balance of the rifle. I'm sure it is a little more muzzle heavy now after taking 2" of wood off the butt stock. but it is something that I don't even notice.

Thanks. I really like it and glad that it does not have the butt plate that comes over the top edge corner anymore and that the top of the stock (cheek weld) is not flat anymore but rounded like a regular stock.
