Re: Well...let's go !
Cruising the Ave on Friday and Saturday nights was a big thing when I was a kid too. Those photos reminded me of our weekends. Don't know what the kids do now, our main drag is mostly empty after 9 PM.
Gas was cheap, you could get 3 gallons for a buck but when I went to work at an A&W/KFC in 1969 I got $1.30 an hour. I've heard that some fast food places are now paying $15 an hour. If you don't count the recent increases when gas was under $4 a gallon it is actually about the same or even a little cheaper when adjusted for inflation.

Love the Shelby GT 500. Even if it's ghosting through the picture. I'm also a fan of the Mach 1s and the street rods.
I was a young teen in 72, but my group had some nice wheels when I made it to high school. Cruising as a thing had passed by then... It was more of a 60s thing in our area. Trucks, they were big into trucks.

You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.
I don't look back at the things I can no longer do, I just look forward to the things I still can.

Cruising is still alive. The Triple XXX Rootbeer Drive-in in Issaquah, WA has a car show every Friday and Saturday night in the summer. It’s non-official as people just show up. The Winter Dance Party bus of 1959 is parked there.

I had a primer gray 55 Chevy 283/3 spd on the floor back in summer of '71 thru 72. Always getting into some "stoplight" fun while making the blvd. rounds. Brother would park his daily driver VW and pull the '70 Hemicuda out of Dad's garage for cruising.

Remember those days and nights well. Around our area, you had Whittier Blvd in Whittier or Tweedy Blvd in South Gate. Some great So-Cal cars!

You had that Mustang set up right Randy!
Re: Well...let's go !
I showed these pics to my wife who was raised in So Cal. She said she used to cruise Van Nuys Blvd right about the time the author took the pics. Said she hung out at Bobs Big Boys quite a bit.
For me, being raised in Spokane Wa we cruised Riverside Ave which is the main downtown street. Had many a good time down there in the 73-75 time frame. Here’s a pic of my high school car. 57 Chev with a mildly built 283 routed thru the OEM three speed with the shifter moved from the column to the floor. Fun times.
