Our Morning Coffee and Weather

Good morning all. Another beautiful cool day here in Irvine. Enjoying two cups of coffee then off to work.

It's a chilly, overcast start to the day here with a possible forecast of rain. Just a typical October day, really!

I hope that anybody living in Florida stays safe when Matthew arrives. It must be a horrendous experience to come face to face with Nature at her worst.

Good morning all from Jonesboro, GA. A warm 67 degrees this morning. High clouds moving in, but little to no chance of rain....a real bummer.
Prayers to those along the cost of Fla, Ga, SC, and NC. Drinking coffee out of a "Paw Paw" mug. The coffee is good, but the cup is priceless! Take care and be safe.

Nice and cool this morning but will get close to 90 again today. I was really enjoying that cooler weather!

No complaints here, could be much worse like in other parts of the country...

Talked to my brother-in-law in central FL last night.
They are prepped for Matthew...not easy to do as he is in a wheelchair.
At the moment, it's not the "Sunshine State."

Praying for all folk in Matthew's path.

with its eye still south of Jacksonville, Fl, within the next half hour the outer bands of Matthew are due to start dumping rain in the area around Raleigh, NC .... weather radar shows a gap should then pass through prior to it getting down to steady rain .... flash flood warnings have been issued for Eastern NC where they are calling for 6+ inches of rain .... they are calling for 3 - 6 inches in our area just south of Raleigh

a Hurricane Warning has been issued for 66 southeastern counties in NC .... the last I heard, the chance of rain in our area is rated above 90% all day tomorrow .... the area around Charleston, SC looks like it is in for a rough time

Good morning everybody. I'm on my 2nd cup of tea already, and it's still too dark to see what the weather is like, but 'cool and overcast' is the forecast.

I hope that everybody living on the SE seaboard has managed to stay safe during the passage of Matthew.

I'm about 30 miles from the ocean just outside of Charleston. So far, lots of rain, and some wind. They are forecasting winds at less than 40 mph constant. Winds are much higher closer to the ocean. Power is still on, not sure how long that will last. Weather stations in the area are showing winds under 20 mph, although it is supposed to pick up to 35 mph any time now. Of course the winds are forecast to be 30 mph right now.

with the eye of Hurricane Matthew still near Charleston, SC .... Wilmington, NC is experiencing flooding .... flooding is also being reported 20 some miles south of us in Fayetteville, NC .... our governor just reported on the air that Matthew has the potential of causing flooding greater than Hurricane Floyd back in 1999 ===> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Floyd <==== for those of us who were here back then, such a proclamation is very serious .... as can be seen below, with the eye of Matthew something over 200 miles from us, we already have standing water

Here in the Charlotte area we are just getting some much needed rain. It has been light and steady for the past two days.
The last Hurricane that did any damage here was Hugo. I was in Charleston the day after the storm with my battalion. We were there for two weeks for recovery and cleanup. It was a mess. We did a lot of good work but there were areas that we didn't have the manpower and equipment for.
The best memories were when we could clear down lines and get power back on. The residents would come out to the street and applaud. Getting a standing ovation while you are 30 feet off the ground on a pole or in a bucket truck was heartwarming.

We really appreciated the power crews that came in and restored power after Hugo. Some folks were without power for over a month.

About twenty years ago we had a bad wind storm that knocked power out for up to five weeks. Our power was out a day short of three weeks.
